May be a stupid question, but is there any difference at all?

I always assumed they were built in the same factories, using the same parts and simply got either the VAUXHALL or OPEL badging added depending on which market they were selling into.

Is this right? Or is there any difference?

Nah, they're the same. Differences in spec exist but they're the same thing.

Cheers, assume that Irish insurance companies would treat them the same too then.

Ive a vauhall vectra 08, no difference insurance wise, spec wise 17" alloy's on the vauxhall, 16" were standard for the opel and a few other bits on the spec are better on the vauhall

There's no Opel VXR8 though;might not be a Vauxhall one now that they've changed the model in Australia.

I'll fish out a picture I look in Edinburgh later on. It was an insignia that had a minor battle scar and the badge on the front grill was missing. The design of the clip the badge had to go into was in the shape of the Opel emblem.

Bar the badges/grill/minor spec there is no difference.

There may be a difference in what you are offered when you try to sell or trade a Vauxhall in.

Values will be different though. A Vauxhall in Ireland will always be less valuable than an otherwise identical Opel.

But that's the thing isn't it, due to the different spec levels you won't always find identical models between an Irish Opel and a UK Vauxhall. Although to be fair recent Irish models are quite well spec'd in comparison.

New Opel I'm buying is higher specced than the UK equivalent.

Some VAG cars are higher spec too and many the same. I think the real difference in specs between the two countries are people are more likely to splurge on options in the UK unlike here.
