I am proposing to slab the gables of my attic. The wall is a single block built on the flat. I am proposing to use 62mm Gyptane Boards i.e. 52mm insulation with 12 mm plasterboard. Do I need to stud the wall with metal strips to provide a bridge, or can I put the slabs directly onto the wall.

You can do as you say but you could develop dampness issues.

There are two options for best practice:

    (1) batten out the wall, put 50mm of fibreglass insulation between the battens and then fix the insulated board to the battens

    (2) sand cement plaster the wall and then fix the insulated plasterboard directly to the plaster with either mushroom fixins or lafarge bonding compound
