So after breaking my 8iron last week I got a great deal on a set of AP2 to try out and I fell in love with them so made the deal... Now to keep them in the booth of the car and not tell the other half or just bring them in and hope they are not noticed it the question...

I got a new 910 D3 also so kind of not wanting to let her know I got the irons also as there maybe some issues on that front :)

    What ya reckon?

all my golf clubs from the last few years are secret purchases. I chop and change every now and then and its never noticed as herself has Zero interest in golf.

I can even change my motorbike gear without her noticing!!

Call me a pussy if ye want but I always fess up. Jesus I hate flippin guilt. But my wan would have an interest in my interests in fairness to her so she might notice where a lot of others wouldn't ever see the new gear. Depends on the woman in question.
Tiny bit of a drunk post here too lol

Missus looks after all the finances. Couldn't buy a black jack without her knowing. Just got new driver so 8 months of ironing to do as payment. ;-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Missus opened the booth the other day, took one look and closed it. She never kopped that my normal blue tour bag had changed to a black stand bag. She wouldn't have a clue if I changed clubs, they all look the same to her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭Gmpd

I'd say nothing.. I took my new (second hand ) driver out to the driving range earlier today first chance I got since getting it last week and on my arrival home my missus asked how my new putter was!!! Not a clue about golf.. Just the way I like it

My missus works with keen golfers and a couple of them are never talking about anything but golf.

She arrived home a while back and was asking my what flex shaft was on my clubs.

Mind your own business was the answer.

    My advice: tell her nothing!

I will say though the 'issue' with golf In this house will not really be the money as such obv would not like too much spent, but its the time away. I'd say that common though?

Just tell her you traded them in and if she has a problem you'll do the same to her ! :D

    I love this thread :D.

Got to the stage where overtime and having to go in unexpectedly just didn't work any more when it came to extracurricular golf.

So in order to get in those unofficial games bought a new bag and a rubbish set of cheap clubs. Put the good clubs in the new bag and put the old set in the garage. Keep the clubs in the boot of my car which she never uses or has access to.

The sudden call outs to work are no problem now once the clubs are in the garage ;).

All good marriages are based on a certain amount of deception !!!!

If she's not a golfer then she'll not notice the new clubs (they all look the same). Tell her nothing unless your willing to spend the same or more on something she wants.:pac:

In fairness to mine , she is a legend that way. Even buys me cool stuff

I think she is sort of doing pay back - I'm noticing the post man call a good bit and she has developed an online clothes buying habit. It is funny , I can't say anything about it (but I sort of did) -

I did have a few sneaky trips to the range last year - but she knew in the end.

I spent way too much on golf last year - so this year will try half it.

Haven't really splashed much cash at golf yet, so I take the approach, if she asks, I'll tell (with below in mind)

Most of the clubs I have are second hand, as long as it's a bargain, then that's the main thing with her :)
If I said I got fitted, customized clubs etc for €1,500, I'd prob get away with it by saying.... but there was 50% off them :D

Can't complain about herself at all, she headed off down to her Sis with the little one yesterday to give me the day off.
I do have to lie through my teeth when she asks the "How did you play" question.
"Oh great... Just off the prizes darling...really love this game...having so much fun out there"
    :D

I would just bring it up as if you were generally to tot up clothes, hair and beauty costs (etc etc) for any average female, the costs of a set of new clubs will pail in comparison. Its not as if your going to change them on a regular basis.

I had the lovely suprise of a new full set of R7's, full size bag and drivers from my better half a few years ago so cant really pretend that I would have ever had to go down this route.

Word of experienced warning - that going down to the sister with the little one can wear off after about 5 years :p - your sister in law will start to dislike you too. ;)

I can't say I've ever hidden any purchases but have definitely understated the cost if a few of them.

Even at the understated price I still always get the "you spent HOW much on a single golf stick?"

We are going on a big holiday this year - but I don't know how to break it to her that there has to be a golf course on it this time :o.

She keeps showing me places and I say , I don't know - any hint of a course in the place, I'm there - I like the curtains in that room - ah look at the way they've done the towels  - In head " What is SSS of course". :P

OMG that is 1998 posts - need to get out more.

    I do like a party.

    44.72135954999579^2 = crazy

As someone said to me , it should be quality not quantity. I have failed there.
This is going to be my mantra for few things in 2013.

Less balls and more sensible practice.
Less posts and messing on here. :(
    Less strokes in golf :D
    Less drinking and posting ;)
Less spending money on golf, spend on new house and family etc.

Anyway - sorry for of topic Post 2000 :o - typical of me:rolleyes: - should get a ban for that. :P

Reminds me of our honeymoon, everywhere I picked was called **** **** & Golf Resort:D

My wife wouldn't have a notion what clubs I buy or own, I have a room upstairs with loads of old and new clubs lying in it, so if a couple of new drivers or sets arrived, she'd be none the wiser.
I always buy secondhand so I don't spend that much and I get all my purchases posted to work, but only because its a PITA to collect them from the Post Office.

Got married 2 years ago. Missus picked hotel. Happened to have 2 courses and was leadbetters academy base. Savage facilities. But felt like a fat kid in a candy store with diabetes. Didn't play once.

I don't buy much in the way of clubs or golf stuff, but my wife wouldn't have a clue what I have new or old. When I have bought stuff, I tend to point out the value in the (few) things I've bought online like the driver I bought on eBay for £40 (actually £60) which, I told her was "in the pro shop the other day for about €230!!!"

Mind you, she did buy me a new bag for my birthday last year...

first thing I considered when we got engaged was to make sure the hotel had a damn good golf course so we played got married at Mount Juliet :)

But to go back to the OP, I think you need to grow a pair! It's your money so do what you want with it. I know that's what I do.

I don't say anything when she wastes her own money on handbags and shoes, in fact I couldn't care less and I could really do without the fashion shows...... does she not see the golf on the tele is much more interesting than her new blouse or whatever the hell it's called!!
