You won't get overclocking parts for that budget unless you go amd which performs far worse for graphics and web work.

I assume it's not 3d graphic design. I left out the graphics card as you won't need it unless it is.

Went a bit over budget but this should suit.

    Item|Price
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version Englisch|€81.61
    ASRock B75 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX|€65.09
    Intel Core i5-3470 Box, LGA1155|€166.85
    16GB-Kit Corsair XMS3 PC3-10667U CL9-9-9-24|€76.46
    Samsung SSD 840 120GB SATA 6Gb/s|€82.31
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 1000GB, SATA 6Gb/s|€59.47
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€45.57
    Sharkoon Vaya schwarz, ohne Netzteil|€26.62
    Xilence Power Gehäuselüfter 12cm|€2.42
    Samsung SH-118AB schwarz|€12.79
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€638.18

-edit- You can get them to build it for you for a fee. I think it's €20.

Great, thanks for the help. It's not for 3d graphics. I don't mind paying the extra bit for something good. I was looking at that site a while back, looks good. What do you think of the computers they have already built like this one - http://lb.hardwareversand.de/Intel/71162/HWV+%5BE%5Dvolution+Intel+i5-3570K-N650-8GB.article

Pretty good but it has issues. They give you a 3570k which is an overclockable processor yet the mainboard is a cheap non overclock version meaning you can't overclock the processor. Really pretty stupid since that proc costs €35 more than the one I listed mainly for the overclocking feature.

It has a reasonable budget graphics card which is a plus.

    8 gig's of ram opposed to 16.

    500gb hdd instead of 1tb + the 128gb ssd.

    Does it have windows installed?

There's way's of shuffling money around in your build. You could go down to a 60gb ssd and a 500gb hdd + 8gigs of ram and use the money saved to get the overclockable processor and mainboard + good cooler to get 4.5ghz clock speeds.

Still no graphics card in the budget but you can always add one down the line if you need it. The same for ram, hdd's, ect. The processor has built in graphics that will do for most tasks.

There's a 90% chance I won't overclock it but it's nice to have the option to if I change my mind. I don't see Windows mentioned on that built computer.

8gb ram should do me fine so I can save a little there, as you said I can easily upgrade in future. I'll stick with the hdd and ssd, would prefer to go with the bigger size.

Do you think I should go for some sort of graphics card or just wait and save for a good one if I need it?

Also, I had a look to see where you could get them to build it. I went the whole way through my order, do you have to leave a note for them to do it or ring them up after the order goes through?

For building I think it's this one.

    http://lb.hardwareversand.de/Service/746/Rechner+-+Zusammenbau.article

That doesn't include the operating system or driver installation which costs an additional €35.

My advice would be to do both yourself. It's really not hard and should only take an evening to do. Having the knowledge to do both will help you troubleshoot your own pc problems in future.

You won't need a graphics card if you aren't gaming or doing 3d work.

Youre using it for web and graphic design? What software will you be using? If youre using "Wordpress" then you could get away with just using photoshop - and any bog standard comp on the marketplace today for €600 can handle Photoshop - its only if you're using resource heavy software like After Effects or Maya that you'd need to worry about RAM etc...

Yeah I think that sounds like a good idea. I have a friend who fixes and puts computer together so I'll get the parts and do it with him and hopefully learn a bit about putting them together :D

Just one other quick question, do you know if that cd/dvd drive can burn cds & dvds?

Yeah it's for web & graphic design. My quad core with 4gb ram is handling the web work fairly well, they're not too big in file size. Wordpress is all online and working with tiny files so that's no problem. The graphic design side of it is what's slowing me down big time. CS6 needs a good 4gb+ of ram for the big files and sometimes I work between Photoshop, Illustrator & Dreamweaver at the same time. I am hoping to get into using After Effects at a later stage down the line so it's good to have something able to handle it when I do.

I had been looking at this one from PC world but the big downside is that it has Windows 8 installed - http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/ADVENT-DT2410-Desktop-PC/312213/307

It's still not a patch on the one above. The quality of the parts in it would also be of a lower standard. The power supply especially in pc's like that tend to be awful.

The drive above is just a dvd drive for installing software. If you want a burner it's only a little more.

To upgrade to the overclockable parts would cost an additional €50 not including a better cooler. You could get about 4ghz with the stock cooler and 4.5+ with a better cooler that would cost €30 more.

Cool, would be better to have something I can burn CDs/DVDs with. Just to recap then if I go with the one you recommended, with just 8gb ram and the other dvd drive.

    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version Englisch €81.61
    ASRock B75 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX €65.09
    Intel Core i5-3470 Box, LGA1155 €166.85
    8GB Corsair XMS3 PC3-10667U CL9-9-9-24 €41.76
    Samsung SSD 840 120GB SATA 6Gb/s €82.31
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 1000GB, SATA 6Gb/s €59.47
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W €45.57
Sharkoon Vaya schwarz, ohne Netzteil €26.62
    Xilence Power Gehäuselüfter 12cm €2.42
    Samsung SH-224BB bare schwarz €16.99

    Shipping €18.99
    Total €615.34

What parts would I need to look at if I wanted to overclock then? I'm sure I could upgrade in future easily enough if I needed to?

Change the processor & motherboard to something like this to be able to overclock:

    Intel i5 3570k €199.81

    MSI Z77A-G43, Intel Z77, ATX, DDR3 €86.09

You should size up going for the overclockable parts now as that socket is unlikely to see much improvements in processors in the future.

You're pretty paying €85 to go from 3.2ghz to 4.5 - 4.6ghz. You could skip the better cooler for now if you wanted to save some money.

You should still get 4ghz with the stock cooler. Maybe higher.

Ye sure I think I'll go for that. Good to have the option to do it.

So do I just need to change my processor and motherboard to the one that dalad recommended? And I can get rid of the 'super-flower' if I want to save some money?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

The super flower is the power supply. There was no improved cooler included in the lists.

If you want one go for this

The processor comes with a basic cooler anyway that should be good enough to get you to around 4ghz.

There's my wide range of knowledge of computer parts showing :D I think I'll leave it out for now then and buy it if I decide to overclock it in future, doesn't cost much to add.

Yeh, well if you want to use After Effects down the road defo get the right equip now - coz that sucks up Memory big time...and stay well clear of Windows 8...

how do you find using Illustrator? It always annoyed - love Photoshop though....(used to do a bit of graphic design but just stick to web work now)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42 renegade909

I'm not a big fan of Illustrator mainly because I'm not that good with it. I only use it for creating vector versions of logos that I've mocked up in Photoshop. I'd like to know how to use it well but I'm the same as yourself, I do 90% web work now and 10% graphic so I rarely have to use it. I only got to use CS6 Photoshop for a few days before but it seems to handle vectors really well compared to older editions so there's probably less need to know Illustrator now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 steffifandler

Yeh thats why I used illustrator - purely for logos - but really got frustrated doing graphic design as it was so little money and it took sooooo long and then people would change their minds a million times ...

I use CS6 and as always its just slightly better than the previous version but its all intuitive so you dont need any extra training..

Anyway good luck with your purchase!

Would an i7 not be much better for your needs?
I wouldn't sacrifice an i7 over an SSD. Probably could get the SSD and another 8GB of ram for under the 700 mark

WD Caviar Green 500GB, SATA 6Gb/s|€49.99
    Intel Core i7-2600K Box, LGA1155|€264.70
    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (SB-Version)|€79.67

Already placed the order but I'm sure the i5 will do fine. I won't be using it for anything to intense on processing speed.
