Speedo from Miles to Kms on 12 Golf

    I have a Mk 6 VW Golf, a UK car, but the speedometer is in miles only.
    Just wondering is there a software update so that the needle indicates Km s instead of miles. It was simpler when the dial had both scales printed.
    Is it a simple or an expensive dealer job

    As far as I know you can change the temp read out to KM/H, my cousin had the same problem when he bought a Jetta back from the UK. The Speedo will always be in miles.

    However it's easy enough to convert (roughly)

    30mph = 50km/h
    50mph = 80km/h
    60mph = 100km/h
    75mph = 120km/h

    To the best of my knowledge it is not possible to change the way the speedo needle reads but as above you can get a Km/h readout on the central display. If you want the speedo needle to read in km/h your best bet is to try to get hold of a secondhand set of KM clocks and get them fitted (need to be coded)

    If you have a multi function display you can get it to show kph if necessary.

    That's why there's plenty of drivers out there doing 90 on 100 and they are thinking they are at the speed limit.

    My speedo miles/km works in a ratio of 1.5. In other words
    speedo 20mph = real 30km/h.
    speedo 33mph = real 50km/h.
    speedo 50mph = real 75km/h.
    speedo 60mph = real 90km/h.
    speedo 66mph = real 100km/h.
    speedo 80mph = real 120km/h.
    speedo 100mph = real 150km/h.

    I found this to be accurate with most of the cars.

    Satnav.

    Satnav matches the speed of on-street display showing your speed when you are passing by (there is one close to where I live)
    While this on-street display matches the speed of professionally calibrated tachographs on some vehicles I drive.

    So in general I'm pretty confident that speed ratings are adequate and precise.

    I'm not saying it would apply to every car. But approximately it would apply to many.
    My current mazda 6 is exactly spot-on with this as well as my previous nissan primera.
    Fiat bravo has bigger speedo discrepancy, so it when bravo shows 60MPH it's actually even a bit under 90km/h.

    Anyway - Car showing 100MPH and doing 150km/h which is exactly 93.2MPH is a discrepancy of 6.8%. Seems reasonable and it's just about as much as most car speedos do.
