Buy new monitor or stick with TV?

Hey there

Currently have my PC hooked up to a 32 inch TV, which is grand, but since one is always looking for better, should I assume the quality of the picture would be greatly improved with a proper monitor?

Current graphics card is a Radeon HD 7870, which would have no problems taking it to a better resolution...

Was thinking of this Dell Ultrasharp U2412M.
Yay/Nay?
Just stick with my TV?

Any advice would be appreciated!

It's a Hannspree 32 Inch... something something.

Getting a 1920×1080 with 50 Hz refresh rate.

go for 60hz refresh and ditch the tv. You'll notice a huge difference in quality

Well yes. The higher the frame rate the better providing your card can do it. 60hz is pretty much the standard at the moment.

If you want a decent budget option then this is a good monitor for the money. I'm sure the ultrasharp is better but I don't know if it's €80 better.

Gaming at that resolution will be a strain on your 7970 I think.

Are we talking gaming at low quality here at that resolution, or just at High instead of Ultra, for example?
Should I just stick to a 1920x1200 monitor with my graphics card?

If you have the 7970 overclocked to high levels it should be ok for most games still at that res.

Some may need small reductions. Others large reductions.

I don't think I'd go 1440p without a dual gpu setup.

Most current games will still be over 60fps. You could probably get away with dropping AA completely at 1440p which helps a fair bit.

Newer games won't be long pushing you below 60fps though. The likes of crysis 3 would be pushing you down as low as 30fps.

You don't want 2 monitors for multi-monitor gaming as the middle of your screen will be the borders of both screens. You need 3 for a decent effect.

If it was a 2 monitor set-up I would keep one for gaming and one, I dunno, keeping an eye on boards or something like that. Is that possible to do?
