hi lads,im new to this shooting game,i have just got a .22cz 452 lux, with a sak mod,id like to try out some different mods, like the over the barrel type, trouble is there is an iron front sight that seems to be permanently fixed,i cant hack saw it off as it is threaded for a mod,any ideas on how to remove the sight without damage,i like the idea of the over barrel mods,as they seem to make the barrel look shorter, and make the overall look of the gun, lets just say cooler:p.s im not some kid.im the wrong side of fifty:(,thanks all.

I havnt had one in a few years but as far as I remember the bottom part of the front sight is soldered onto the barrel. So Id imagine if your hell bent on removing it, you will have to get the barrel shortened and re threaded. But definatly wait until you hear from someone on here that has one at the minute and they can confirm wheather it's removable or not.

As for the moderator, you definatly don't need an over barrel one for a .22lr. A friend of mine has a sak one ( I spose the same as your one) and with subsonic rounds it's practically silent.

And come here horse- life starts at fifty!!! ( so the father tells me!!!) :)

The hood is usually easy enough to get off. From memory (never took mine off) it should "slip" off with a tap of a hammer. Might want to use a cloth or rubber hammer.

The sight itself is a different story. Some come off by removing a screw, and pushing/tapping it forward towards the muzzle. Others, as said, are soldered/glued on. Heating can remove it, but you need to know what you are doing and once off i don't know how you might go about putting it back on.

If it were me, and i was never going to use the open sights i would bring it to a gunsmith, have him try to remove the sights first, and if that was not possible then cut it, and thread it. Shouldn't cost more than €100 for the work.

What overbarrel mods have you in mind for a rimfire?

If I can remember correctly to when I had a cz. The hood should tap out back towards the action. The bead should be able to be tapped out in the same direction. Under the bead is one or 2 screws I can't remember. Remove them and your iron sight is gone. I had a cz 527 but I presume they are the same.

hi silverfox, tes the hood tapped off no prob, then the Small sight had a scerw, that came off,but the iron bed they both were on seems made (part of )into the barrel, guess a smith is the only answer, thanks

    25mm long, adds 120mm to the end of a .22.. 40mm diameter....

My rimfire mod is 110mm long, 35mm diameter and better than a SAK. The over barrel mod like that on a .22 is just adding weight.. You'd be better off just getting a shorter mod than the dm80.
