Hi, anyone know the price of a timing chain belt for a vw golf? And the price to fit it? Timing chain was initially replaced on 04 golf at 60k miles... Any idea when it may have to be changed again?

    Thanks a mill

You shouldn't have to change the chain until at least 200k km, and even at that the chain may only need tightening. YOu shure there's not a belt on it?

Sorry... Misunderstanding there. Apparently it just the belt that was charged at 60k miles. Would this be right? Any idea at what mileage it would need to be replaced again? Thanks again

Which engine is in the car and which shape Golf is it? 2004 was the changeover year from Mk4 to Mk5.

Timing belts need to be changed at set mileage or time intervals, whichever comes first. The belt is made of rubber and perishes over time as well from use.

Just because it was changed before does not mean it should not need to be changed again. When it needs to be changed again will depend on mileage or duration of time since it was last changed.

Thanks. So would you have any idea when a 2004 golf 1.4l petrol's belt would next need to be changed if it was last changed at 60,000 miles? Thanks

VW main dealers had an offer of €359
Timing is everything and we recommend that the timing belt in your car is changed every 4 years. Now, for a limited time, we are offering this service on any Volkswagen Passenger Car for an amazing €359. This is part of our Price Promise which means that this is all you will pay.

What will we do on the day?
    • Strip down the relevant components of the engine and renew the timing belt, tensioner, water pump and coolant

    • Reassemble, road test and record the work in your Volkswagen Service Book

    • Wash and Vacuum your car

How long time-wise is it since the belt was changed?

We charge €300 for them, I would imagine most other independent garages would be a similar price.

Roughly again after another 60k miles but they should be changed after at 5 years at least if the mileage isn't reached.
