Thanks very much! It looks like it ticks all the box.

If I use an ethernet line, would that mean I wouldn't need the Wireless LAN card?

Yeah you wouldn't need it in that case. I threw in windows 8. You may prefer 7 but I'd go with 8 as it has some features 7 doesn't have and performs better in some areas.

It is a big change from previous ui's though but can be modified to work more like 7 anyway.

You will have to get a keyboard elsewhere as the German layout is different.

I had to kinda cheap out a bit on the case to get in budget but it's a good case for the money. No front usb 3.0 ports though but that's not an issue for most people.

Yeah I've used Win 8. Not dying about the interface but as you said it has better features in some areas.

Depending on how things go, I might be able to stretch the budget. What case would you recommend? Any suggestions on keyboards?

    Thanks again!

Stick with 7 then. I really like the ultra fast boot mode on 8 though but it's no biggy.

You could drop down to a 60gb ssd if you wanted to save money towards a better case. A 60gb ssd is loads for windows and your non game programs. I have a 60 with W7 and a lot of programs installed and there's still 30gb free. Once you disable Hibernation mode and reduce the virtual memory from 10 to 2-3gb's Windows doesn't take much space.

I'd only go to 120 if you are planning on installing some games on the ssd.

As for cases it's more of a personal choice. I like tooless drive bays and you want good airflow for overclocking. Minimalist cases are nice if you are into that look but airflows in them are usually not great for overclocking.

The size of the case is the other factor. Do you want a midi or large full tower case?

I have no preferences on the aesthetics i.e. minimalist wouldn't be for me as I'd much prefer a bigger one if it cools better.

Any colour preference? (Screw you chrome correcting my correct spelling of colour)

Not really. Again function over form. Plain black is nice but again not too fussy at all. I'll probably overclock at some point in the near future so thinking that good airflow is key.

There's really a crazy amount of cases on HWVS.

A lot of them are good so it's hard to make specific recommendations.

I'd say choose one yourself that has good features at a price that's ok for you.

    Something like
    http://lb.hardwareversand.de/Midi/57761/Corsair+Carbide+Series+300R%2C+ATX%2C+ohne+Netzteil.article

I'd add a side intake and a top exhaust fan.

    Hi Bloodbath,

Thanks again for the advice. I'm thinking of going with the Cosair case. When it comes to getting fans for it, is there much of a difference between different types/makes of fans?

Main things you want to look for is.

CFM is the rated airflow and how much air the fans can push. The higher the better.

DBM is the noise level. Below 30fb is virtually silent. The lower the better.

Static pressure helps fans push air through filter's and vents. The higher the better.

You want to balance all 3 of these. Ideally something around 40-60 cfm, 20-30db, 0.5 - 1.0 static pressure.
