Shotgun

    How many people have one?

    What type is it?

I have an old 12 bore single barrel shotgun which a neighbour passed on to me when her brother, the owner, died. It is an LC Smith and she says that her uncle brought or sent it from America in the 1940's. It had never fired a shot until I got it. There was still the original oil soaked wool packing in the barrel. Its used to shoot mags and an odd fox that's hassleing sheep and a few years ago it was very useful when dogs attacked the sheep.

The biggest problem is that it is only a single barrel and it would be so much more useful to have a double barrel. I have a license for it. Can anyone tell me how one goes about buying another gun? Do I have to get a second licence before I go to the gunsmith or how does it work? Are there any rules or regulations about having 2 guns?

my dad has 2 guns, a single and a double barrel. the single is an old soviet gun. he got it when the changed the old gun he had. he had to hand in the old gun before the new one could be resistered. he has that on a vermin linence. the double was given to him by an elderly neighbour in his will, that is on a hunting lincence, i think it might be british but not sure.

the day of a vermin licence is over
second gun licence is now 80euro as well
you can go to any gun dealer and pick your gun then they will give you slip with details on it go to local garda give to him and get new licence (2 months plus) or else trade your old gun and get garda to amend your old licence

    ps
double barrel (yldiz-cheep gun) here for crows ect
and remington 220 swift rifle for anything over 100yrds (dogs fox)here

You bring the gun that you wish to exchange into the gun dealer who will give you a receipt for the gun which will have all the details and serial no of the gun and then they will give you another docket for a 'new sale/private sale' with the details of the new gun which you hand into your garda station with your license and they get your license amended and then you go back and collect your new gun once you get your license back.

I have two, shotgun and rifle. Licence is per specific gun so you need to buy gun first then apply for licence and wait for it before picking up. Don't believe any issue having two shotguns think you legally will need a gunsafe where as with one you legally don't - I am open to correction on that though....

I have a Yildiz Turkish over and under shotgun, reason I went for it is its light as mainly used for long walks ferreting or fox hunting. Other guns are very heavy but probably better for heavy shooting such as pigeons etc....

With one gun a trigger lock is enough 2 or more guns require a gun safe bolted to wall or floor. You need a licence for each gun agree to buy the gun put a deposit on it and then go to the guards and when the licence comes go back and pick up the gun.

all of the above is correct and accurate. Just one thing to add. Gun licences are issued for 3 years hence the €80 - you cannot license a gun for a year any more. no such thing as a vermin licence (the old fiver one) - its 80e regardless.

Can you have license to use gun you don't own? E.g use my brothers gun, who also has a license to use the same gun.
