I have been wanting to scream this from the roof tops for the past few weeks but we were putting the final touches to it. I hope people don’t mind me sharing this but in these ****ty economic times it's nice to hear a good story every now and then.

As some of you know I set up Golfgraffix in my bedroom 4 years ago, it was really meant as a hobby but soon enough I decided to pack in my well paid and secure job to try and make a go of it. The first two years were tough, really tough and in the third year there was a small chink of light. In 2011 I managed to get a very small bit of funding from the local enterprise board, along with the 7K they got me in touch with a mentor, who really set me on the right path. His constant thread through all our conversations was to gain some credibility in foreign markets and to try and align ourselves with some name in the golf business.

Well, we have just signed a deal with Nicklaus Design that will see us launch in the US and China not as Golfgraffix but as Nicklaus Design Digital Course Solutions. For a small little outfit from Ireland this is a huge deal, it opens the door to almost 17,000 golf courses. The full launch is not until mid-summer but already we have had interest from so many courses, we have just started on Valhalla (next year’s PGA Championship) and will soon do Muirfield Village for the Memorial.

As someone who started to follow golf in '86 after The Masters, meeting the big man was insane. I had 3 days with him at their offices in Florida, I was seriously star struck, I had to pinch myself. A very surreal experience having lunch with your idol.

    John_And_Jack_web.jpg

So from me in my bedroom in '09 we are now up to 4 staff with a small design office in Clontarf, I hope to have that up to 8 by the end of 2014.

Anyway just thought that seeing as we are all golf nuts I would share, hope it doesn’t come across as "look at me", it certainly not my intention.

    J

Congrats. Great to see someone doing something they love and doing well at it. A signed photo from jack for a prize will have the biggest turnout at a boards outing.

    Well J.A,

What can you say but that's absolutely fantastic news.

Congratulations and I hope that your success goes worldwide and is unbounded.

To see such vision and dedication bearing fruit in a few short years to such a prestigious client takes my breath away and is a huge inspiration!

No wonder you have not the time to play a lot of golf unless you play digitally.

    Regards,

    Great stuff.

Picture says it all. I remember looking at it first going , great product. I was also thinking how mad it is to enter that area, which seems so competitive.

Great courage to take that on. Best of luck, I'm not sure you need it now.

Well done, proving employment for others is most welcomed these days. Head down now for the short and mid term before you exit and make millions ;). As someone who has provided business support like this in the past it really is simply making and sticking to an achievable plan with structured milestones.
    Stick to the plan!

If you REALLY want to impress us, bring Jack along to one of the Boards outings. We could teach him a thing or two.

Congratulations and good talking to you yesterday.

A genuine outpouring of delight amongst the members here, and richly deserved!! It is a proud moment to be Irish and an opportunity for our spirits to be lifted by this demonstration of how a bright idea, long and lonely hours, dedication and honest to goodness quality Irish innovation and skill can compete, and win, on the world stage.
Thank you for sharing the progress with us and we all rejoice in your outstanding achievement.
Given the weekend that is in it, Is it eligible for a technical Oscar? If not, it should be!

    Warmest congratulations

    Peter

Cheers guys, I appreciate all the good wishes.

Like alot of things it looks good on paper, now it's all down to maximising the connection and maybe we can start to make some money.

But either way its been a blast, other than the money worries it has never felt like work, I am very lucky to be working at something I love.
