Need new CPU Fan

    Hey

I am using an i5 2500k on a AsRock Z68 Pro3 Board, the Fan (cooler master TX3) needs to be replaced, really loud when I turn the system on then quietens down, been getting worse.

Any recommendations what I could replace it with? Preferably from Amazon?

Can I just take out the TX3 and stick in the replacement or do I need thermal paste? Is that hard to do?

How much do you want to spend?

If it's a budget option you want then I'd go with this.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-120mm/dp/B0068OI7T8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361500475&sr=8-1

It's easy to install and comes with decent paste. The fan is pretty quiet on it too.

OOps, that would have been handy wouldn't it!

Budget option is what I'm after, is CM good brand? TX3 only 13 months old...or I'm just unlucky.

Who handles transaction when Amazon isin't the seller?

My bad I didn't read your post right. You just need a reed fan. Look for something with a good cfm (40-60+) low db (25-35) and reasonably good static pressure (0.5 - 1.0+)

Yea, I haven't a clue what that means.

    I'll get that Cooler Master.

Sorry. Just replace the fan on your old one.

What way did you have it mounted? Was the fan on the side or on the bottom?

Some fans wear out very quickly if mounted horizontally.

Amazon have a pretty poor selection and not much details.

Oh, didn't know you could do that.:o

HWVS built it, it's on the right side. Just looking at it there, it has to be that way, if it was on the bottom, the sides of the metal part, it'd be out over RAM stick 1?

Didn't have to be Amazon, buy alot of stuff their so it was just handy.

My tx3 is loud when the pc starts as its running full speed then (about 2500rpm) Does it quieten once windows is finished starting up? If so that's normal and wouldn't bother replacing it. You could change the fan speed in bios so it will spin slower all the time.

If it's silence you want then something like this has good performance for it's virtually silent noise levels.

If you are overclocking you will want something with more airflow though.

Noctua make some of the best fans that offer both silence and high performance but they cost a lot. Looking at €15 for a decent 92mm.

By the way, if its the first edition of the Tx3 (not the Evo) it will be a bit of hassle to change the fan as there is 4 rubber triangles glued to the stock fan. These would need to be removed and put onto the new one as the metal clips won't fit properly otherwise.

Theirs definitely something wrong, it's not normal Fan noise. It's louder than full speed, rattley/grindy noise.

This is actually the 4th part to break since I got it, case fan-->RAM Stick-->GPU and now this. Don't think I'd use HWVS again. Or definitely not let them build it anyway.

    It's this Fan. It says
    Easy swappable fan by clips

I'm getting what your previous post meant now:pac:, not looking for silence, just back to normal, current Fan speed is 800 ~ 2800 R.P.M. (PWM), the Noctua is 1000 - 1600 rpm, just more efficient?

Minimum db on the TX is the same as the Max on the Noctua, it must be very quiet. Life expectancy is near 4 times aswell, TX Fan is crap.

Is clips the norm replacing Fans? The Noctua will just clip on?

"flipping Noobs eh", I can hear ya.:p Thanks for answering!

If the tx has clips it should just clip on.

Those noctua fans are worth the money. It's a pity about their colour scheme though. The static pressure is high as well

The stock fan on the coolermaster wasn't bad. I've seen far worse. It just has sleeve bearings which tend to fail pretty fast.

It has clips but there is 4 rubber things between the fan and heatsink to reduce vibration (these are glued onto the fan). This makes the fan have more depth so these might need to be put onto the replacement for the clips to keep it secured properly.

Don't pay any attention to the DB spec of a fan. There's 2 types of noise from fans, airflow and bearing noise. Airflow is dictated mainly by fan size and speed. The tx3 at 800rpm will be much quieter than the noctua at full speed regardless of specs. The tx fan isn't bad. I have 2 of them, the old version and evo. They're both silent at minimum speed.

You can get an arctic f9 92mm pwm fan pretty cheap and they use fluid bearings similar to the noctua.

Ah yes the evo has the same. I forgot about those. There was a spare set with the evo for a second fan.

The bearings in the noctua are quieter than sleeve bearing as well as lasting far longer. The rating is not a cfm rating though so it's not as good as I thought. Too good to be true for that noise level and 92mm. It's still probably the best all round 92mm fan you can get but not the highest performer.

If you want a good cheap fan these are good. Crazy high full power rpm but it's pwm so you could adjust it down a little if your mainboard has power control.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/92mm-asetek-vapochill-extreme-micro-pwm-fan-black-3800rpm-(dc-brushless)-oem

They won't last very long before they start getting louder though as they are also sleeve bearing but you could buy some replacements at that price.

    Went with the Noctua

These Rubber yokes, it's fine to reuse them or should I look for replacements?

    Thanks, both of ye.
