I saw this today in my local garage , you don't see to many dealers doing this. Is this going to be a thing to come to inject new sales into the new car market.

Sorry I spelled skoda wrong in title

well i think this is the way the irish market needs to go, in the uk loads of companys do this for car sales.

    http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/offers-finance/finance_my_car/flexible_finance_0_apr.html

    http://www.opel.ie/

    same cars NOT same offers.

and while were on subject of getting ripped off. i was asking guy in skoda garage about one of the models that was in cat and he said that top of range model isnt available in ireland. i know lots of top of ranges arnt available in ireland.

whats the deal with this anyway

As far as I know you apply in the dealership when looking to buy the car. It is not the type of finance where you get pre-approved and then go looking for a car.

oh wasnt aware of that.not entirely sure I'll get approved. only started a new job recently enough. thought I'd try apply online and see. have a good credit rating and savings but I'd say I won't be approved as I'm only in this job a few months. before then I was a student working part time and on back to education

The Bank they're using is VW Bank, get onto any Skoda dealer if your local one won't pick up the phone as when it comes to car finance its all channeled through the same place

Why would he want a guarantor?

Because I'm only in full time work for 4months

I wonder if you put a bit more up front would they approve you seeing as it tips the balance in their favour.

Are you permanent?? Thats probably their issue, normally in a new role you have to work 6 months probation thats why they're asking for gaurantor!

They actually turned me down today also which is a shame. Am a contractor for the last 4 years (working 16 years full-time) and never been out of work.
Its a sign of the times and to be expected in fairness. What i have noticed though where I work and its a large employer, that probably 1 in 10 is a full-time or the rest are on fixed term contracts. So it would mean anymore like me would have fun also getting a loan.

Not being nosey but i wonder does the size of deposit have much of an effect on whether they approve finance or not. I mean if you were to put up maybe 40 percent, they couldnt possibly lose even if you defaulted on first payment.

    The deposit mattered for us.

We purchased a Yeti in 2011, however VW only agreed to finance a loan if we put in a higher up front payment.

We put down 40% of purchase price, the rest was on finance.

Finance we were putting up worked out at 35% but still didn't work. Lack of "perm" job was the killer, but cest la vie. Lotto done for Sat night ;)
But looking at the CU now to see if they will facilitate.

Fair enough on the contract work but putting up 35% and still being refused, thats rough.

Ya its tight isn't it, but you know if they were as tight back over the last 10 years we might be better off! :D

Will see what the CU say, meeting tonight to discuss their loans :D

CU are a bit of a rip off too with their rates specially if tying up a big percentage of the loan value in cash savings.
I hear the CU are applying full bank lending criteria now too so alot of people might be let down.
