    afternoon folks,

I buy both nuts from aldi and they are made by clancy. i would eat a fair few pistachios as there quite addictive and used to probably eat to many but now i eat less cause of the high calories..

I bought a bag of cashews for the first time today and there lovely aswel. I see that they have very similar nutritional details on the back as pistachios except there double the carbs.

Im wondering are both equally as good for you? i know as there salted that there not the best to buy out there but ill still eat them for a snack..

im working hard on weightloss at the moment and im just unsure if they'd interfere. i know some people say have a handfull but id generally eat about half a bag and the odd time a full bag as there addictive

    cheers!

How much is a bag? a serving of nuts (any variety) is around 30-50g. (or a handfull)

    most bags are 150-200g

It doesnt matter how much you choose to have, as long as you factor the calories into your daily total.

A bag of nuts would be a large % of that daily total. ( 1 bag of 200g is over 1000 calories)

    limit your intake

yeah there 150g. yeah thats i was thinking and thats what ive been doing lately, just watching i dont go over the daily total and keep the deficit going.. although i did do about 20mins weights + 20mins cardio workout this morning so ive upped the protein count for the day..

not so long ago when i wanst watching the daily total i sometimes had a bag from lidl which are much bigger like 250-300g and i would eat nearly all or even the whole bag! didnt realise how high calories where!

nuts are good, but because of the high fat content they are very calorie dense.

try dried meat snacks aswell, beef jerky and biltong as they have high protein and lower fat

Ideally tho you shouldnt be snacking too much, try to just add more to your meals and avoid snacking.

Or if you wanted to: make a bigger meal and eat it in two sittings, this will minimise your snacking.

cool yeah ill have a look at those..

yeah i agree i actually rarely snack its maybe 1 or 2 days a week when im stuck in for the day.. but ive cut back alot..infact i think the reason why i wasnt dropping weight before was down to the snacking and eating over the daily amount but ive wiped that out this year! have made big improvemnts to the diet and seeing decent results just trying to get the weight down by another stone at least..hopefully 1 and half..

most supermarkets sell it, or you can make your own. thank you dotcomdolly
    recipe on this thread
    Jerky "Recipe"
Get a piece of sirloin steak, as opposed to ususal, you want it very lean with as little marbling as possible. Keep an eye out in the "reduced to clear" fridge for bargains
Put it in the freezer or about an hour till it is partially frozen, makes it easier to cut thinly.
Slice the meat in thin slices across the grain and on the diagonal so you get nice long & wide strips.
Put these in a ziploc freezer bag.
Add a slosh of soy sauce (or coconut aminos if you don't do soy). You could also add spices but it doesn't really need it.
Leave for 4+ hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to lowest posible setting - I have a gas oven and it it on S which is cooler than gas mark 1
Put a rack over a baking tray and lay the pieces of meat out nice & flat (you may need to do several batches).
Cook for approx 1hr , turning over half way. Keep an eye on them!

Biltong you can get from a butcher. One near parnell street does it, but its quiet common in a lot of places now.

    Or order it on-line. http://www.unclebok.com/
