Phone Broken after dropbox update

This may be just coincidence, but after updating dropbox I went into the application and my phone crashed. (phone is Xperia Play)

I had to remove battery and attempt to restart, however the phone just gets stuck on the Sony Ericcson logo on boot and the phone refuses to boot.

I've googled and tried to boot in safe or recovery mode but no joy, it either gets stuck on Sony Ericsson or a "screen of death" (all fuzzy colours like an old TV outtage)

Clicking on dropbox was the only mitigating factor I can see. It's impossible it might be from moustuire or anything like that.

I'm actually upset as this phone is my pride and joy and it's out fo warranty I think (bought Nov 2011 on o2.ie)

    Is my phone finished?

Check xda-developers.com and see if there are any similar threads in the Xperia Play forum there. There may be suggestions or steps for unbricking there.

An app update shouldn't brick a phone, but I wouldn't count it out. Could just be a coincidence.

    Woot!

    I'm in luck.
