I was wondering what were the best bands people have seen live and what are the best live performances they have seen on youtube or TV for that matter.

Two that stand out for me would be REM who were incredible and Chic a band I thought I woudnt like at all.

I have seen Queen but they must have had an off day as they werent great on the day I saw them.

These 2 performances blow me away.

In this Mick Fleetwood looks like hes going to have a heart attack. Plenty of dodgy substances taken I think

Went to see Lady Gaga in September and probably wouldn't go again. Man she can talk and talk and talk and talk........ The Darkness were great though. I'd go and see them again.

3 best for me in order of amazingness would have to be Bon Iver at the 02, Little Dragon at Button Factory, and either Oasis or RHCP at Slane.

I've always been pretty unimpressed by the big acts at EP and Oxygen. Much prefer dancing away in a small shed.

Saw Jay-Z at oxygen a few years back, very good. Dizzee Rascal was also pretty good along with Florence & The Machine although I'm not a fan of either of their music generally.

The Prodigy and that type of music all sound the same to me but I've been to dozens of those type of gigs and they're always great craic.

Found Robbie Williams unreal in concert, even though I'm not the biggest fan of his music.

    Found Eminem very disappointing live.

The Duke and the King, New Order, Springsteen and E Street band, Flaming Lips.
I suppose I should put dates and places but as they say if you can remember........

Wish I could have seen Fleetwood Mac or The Doors in their heyday. Two of my favorite bands of all time.

Green Day in Marlay Park, back in 2010.
Snow Patrol in the O2, January 2012.

    They were amazing. :D

Muse are superb live. Leonard Cohen was moving.

Also, and this will be met with some contention, but U2 live are always spectacular.

Muse and Devendra Banheart for me. Blew my mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,293 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

I've seen tthe Red Hot Chili Peppers 3 times and they were great every time. Coldplay were fantastic as well. I wish I could have seen Oasis before they split up.

Roger Waters: The Wall was a surreal experience '10

Eric Clapton/Stevie Ray Vaughn/ Robert Cray - the night SRV was killed in the helicopter crash '90

Jimmy Page - solo show in '88

Chuck Berry w/ Keith Richards - Chicago Blues Festival '86

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers '02

    AC/DC - Black in Black tour '80

    Jeff Beck: Crossroads Festival '07

    Paul McCartney '02

Rage Against the Machine - Lollapalooza '93

Bruce Springsteen '80 and '84 (not even that big of a fan)

I have been incredibly fortunate to see so many amazing shows to think of that I could go on for hours.

Been to see a lot of concerts over the years - Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Ronnie James Dio, Motorhead, Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, but the best for high-energy non-stop rock I've ever been to was two Billy Idol concerts, first in '91 at the Point depot and there again in 2005 or so.

    Hope he comes back soon.

Swedish House Mafia summer 2012 :D

Can't remember most to be honest, not sure if that's good or bad. Usually find the smaller bands I never heard of to be quiet good, although I'd say I look a bit stupid trying to sing along when I don't know the lyrics.

Not my favourite gig but went to the revival tour in 2011 and it was a great gig....3 great songwriters in Brian Fallon, Dan Adrian and Chuck Ragan and 1 ok one in Dave Hause playing for over 3 hours, and only 20 euro for the ticket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

    The NSO at the NCH.

The Red Army Central Command Number 1 band. They were unbelieveable.

I actually fell asleep standing up with my head on my mate's shoulder at Florence and The Machine during Oxegen 2010. Totes awkz.

I'm guessing everyones tastes will vary.

New Model Army were my favorite band to listen to Live.

Bauhaus around since the 70's were also awesome to see live.

Iron Maiden even though I'm not into metal were fantastic live, one
of the Iron Maiden gigs Marylin Manson was a support act and he was terrible live.

Sisters of Mercy another favorite band I saw once and as much as I loved
their Albums they sounded Crap Live.

The Cure are one of my favorite bands yet I've never ever in all the years
I've been listening to them seen them live. Back in the 80's or 90's I would have loved to have seen them, but nowadays with electric picnic type venues I've not enough interest to make the effort. (Old and Lazy now)

In my teenage years and in my 20's I would have been much more enthusiastic about music and gigs now I'm a few years too close to 40 my music listening consists of random nights where I drunkenly click on links upon links to youtube videos of all the past bands I liked as a youth.

I just want to see Rammstein again. Sweet merciful Jebus that was an incredible show they put on last Febuary. Even now, just thinking about the opening build up to Sonne gets my heart pumping!

They said there was no show like a Joe show but now he's dead

And So I Watch You From Afar. Holy mother of fucck, that was a gig.

Band of Skulls were great in the O2 as well.

And very differently, I saw Steve Cooney play in a little room. Absolute guitar wizard, excellent concert.

    Ultravox .

I first saw them play in Dublin way back in the 1980s and didn't see them again until they reformed and played at the Liverpool Philharmonic in 2010 .Then last year they toured again to promote their new album ' Brilliant ' and I so enjoyed the concert at Manchester ,I decided to go see them again the following week at Blackpool .After the concert , I got to meet and have photo taken with Midge Ure ,Billy Curry ( violin /keyboards ) and Warren Cann ( drums ) who all signed my Return To Eden dvd cover .

The Beach Boys ( 3 times ) ,Status Quo ( 4 times ) and Paul McCartney ( 1) would be also be the other great acts I've really enjoyed in concert .
