I've just fitted one last week. A Gliderol electric up and over Garage Door. I have fitted many a Roller Shutter also on Doors and in front of Windows for Security. Where are you looking to fit it whats the space used for ?
    Where are you located.

That's a similar size to the one I fitted two weeks ago. It was 7ft x 9ft.
The reason I asked what you wanted to use the space for was to best advise you what's most suitable for you. Roller Shutters are great and give no trouble if fitted correctly, but the space inside them will be very very cold in the Winter Months. likewise with a single skin Garage Door. My honest opinion if you want to use it for a play room then a good set of well fitting Wooden Doors is your best bet. You can seal them better than any type of Garage Door. you can even insulate the back of them to make the area more comfortable.
If your intent on going for the Garage Door then your best option is a 4 panel insulated Door. There aluminium double skinned with about 50 mm of insulation between the skins. They have a good 50mm rubber bumper type seal on the bottom which compresses against the ground and seals very good. The sides however have a thin blade type rubber seal which although decent will let some air pass through or around it quite easily. This may be ok for you if you are going to put in some form of heating in the room. That's about your options, I can pm you the source for the Door if you wish.

I too am looking for garage doors and wanted the 4 panel insulated ones as there is a room above the garage. However the ceiling track might be a problem as there is a stairwell to one side of the door. Is the track much wider than the door?

You need 100 mm to 150 mm space either side of the Door ope to fit the Track.
100 mm is ok but 150 gives a little bit of freedom for ease of fitting.

An insulated pvc roller door would suit, more so than the standard roller door, which is much colder and rattles much more, with no restrictions on the ceiling, and the motor will be inside the roller.
A well fitted remote version would come in approx 850/1000....

can the motor be added at a later date?

Yes they can as there a repairable part. But why would you bother. The Motors are cheap enough.

    Hi,

Just looking for some advice, please.

My father reversed into the roller door of the garage with a trailer some time ago (he had misjudged the height). He bent the bottom strip with the weather seal. Its an automated door and despite telling him to use the other door (double garage) he continued to use it, thinking it was fine.

The problem is now the door is not opening fully (18" from he top) and if closed using the automated system it will 'unravel'. I tested it at the weekend and it seems to be slipping going up and catching going down.

I imagine it is a gear/cog that has broken, are these easy to fix? I also want to replace the bottom strip as its unsightly. Are these a universal piece as its a double garage I would like to keep both sides the same.

I also want to add the guide rail on the right side of the door was damaged by my broth attempting to fix the problem if it is a cheap part I wold replace this also as the house is quite new.

Sorry for the long winded post and thanks in advance
