    Hi

So doing the first cut of the lawn today aa stone flew and hit one of the sides of the patio doors and it has completely cracked into thousands of pieces but it still in one piece on the frame. It seems to only have affected one pane of the double glazing as the inside is still smooth.

Im considering claiming off my house insurance as we'd only lose a €50 no claim bonus. Im just wondering would they just replace that one pane?

The problem I have is the lower 2 foot of both sides of the door has been scratched by the dog and it just looks like privacy glass. Would a insurance company replace both sides so it looks even? Having a new pane on one side would make the scratched side stand out..

    Thanks

It's a double glazed unit, so the whole thing needs to be replaced.

Ring a local glazer, and get them to call out, measure, and give you a price to replace the unit.

Then deal through the Insc Co.

Some Insc Co's have a service where they organize everything for you, so ring them first, as they may have tradesmen on call.

Check your policy first for an excess, more than likely about 250 euro and to change the pane supply and fit more than likely 150 euro

its toughened glass thats why it shattered in so many pieces its for safety reasons check/ask around lots of guys working for dg companies do these jobs as tommers its only a 10min job to replace as 650gs says insurance probably have an excess in your policy what size is the unit thats broke their not as expensive as you think

i am a glazier and i price,d a patio door today for a customer size 33x78 toughened glass double glazed and the price was 180 fitted.and on a side note a patio dg unit does not take 10mins to repair. the door has to be taken down and split. old unit out new one in door.door put back together and then back on its tracks 30-40 mins once all goes well

I'm in Cork. We would have no excess for this job so ill probably just ring insurance company on Monday. Thanks for the replies folks.

I'm suprised at how inexpensive a job is tbh!

If your door is an old Aluminmum door you just lift it off the rollers and screw it apart fit the new glass, screw it back together and lift it back on again so lets say 30 min if its the side that doesnt move ad another 10 min to take the two strips that hold it in.
if your door is a PVC door lets say 10 min to pop out the beads and pop them back in again no need to take anything off. and Id double check the excess thing seems strange not to have one

Some policies have an accidental Glass Breakage clause, with no excess.
Same as the Windscreen cover on your Car.
