    Hi folks,
My friend is in the States for the week and is going to order me an SSD drive and bring home for me. Can anyone please recommend one to get?

    Thanks

Crucial M4 if you want value, Samsung 840 Pro if you want speed. Both are reliable. (And really, there's not a lot of noticeable difference between the two)

When is he going? Crucial is set to release its M500 line soon, which are going to be very affordable, and great performers too, by all accounts.

    @ Serephucus
    Thanks for reply.
He's there now and needs to order it today so gotta make a quick decision. Is there much difference in speed in the two drives you recommended?

The 840 Pro's writes are a lot faster, and reads are a bit. If money's not a concern go for the 840 Pro (there's also a plain 840, don't go for that) but if you want something that's still very fast, and proven reliable, then the M4 is the one to go for.

Reviews and the like can show the 840 Pro drastically beating the M4, and while it can be true on paper, it's not very often these situations come into play.

Actually, I'd just go with the M4. It's $170 vs. $230 for the 256GB version. That's enough of a saving to warrant it, IMO.
