Best place for Tyres

    Hi all

    another question re tyres.

I was not too happy with the tyres i got when i bought my car, but the thread depth was ok, and i couldnt afford to just get new ones straight away.

however, i was looking at one of the front ones just now and realised one of them has a screw in it. A SCREW. in the tyre. and its not losing air. i wonder if this was done to plug an air hole.

Anyway, this has completely put me off the tyres right now, the other front side has had repairs done to it when it developed a leak, so i had that fixed quick (im getting a spare wheel hopefully today). also, the back tyres look worn.

long story short, i will be investing in four tyres now - 225/55/16 for an e60. should i replace with the same dimensions or will others fit? bmw style alloy 134.

Ideally, i would like to get part worns, ive had some on my previous cars, and they have been fine.

However, my tracking is off - as the steering wheel is not straight when im going straight, so i will need that done too.

I am wondering if anyone knows where i could get part worns as well as tracking and balancing done, cheapest possible? - some places have quoted me part worn all season michelin/continental at 40 a side. i dont mind that, and they have about 5mm thread left.

Thanks for helping (im in south dublin, but dont mind going around dublin for it).

For part-worns, Discount Tyres is a garage I've seen mentioned here quite often.

When I changed mine last December, I was planning on buying them online and have one of the mobile fitters fit them but after a colleague's recommendation I went to Tallaght Tyres instead since their price was very competitive. I'm not sure if they do part worns though.

    I've used this place:

    Square Tyres
    Square Motor Centre
    Tallaght
    D-24
    0857814791

Price on mine was €40 a tyre.

Got a pair of 16's replaced and had the tracking done on the car too.

Cost €110, took half an hour, very nice chap too.

I'd imagine the best place for tyres would be on the rims.

Get the screw out, it will ruin the tyre as you drive. Plug it for €10 in any puncture repair shop..

thanks Muckie, ill try and get there saturday if they are open. would be open to other suggestions if other people have them.

Have used tyreland before - while the tyres were good, the service...

    Anyway

    thanks!

EDIT: i thought that name was familiar. i actually popped into the walkinstown branch today (ballymount area). ive had good service from them before, however they dont do part worns there, and semperits (x4) new were going to be 550 euros with tracking, continental 650 with tracking.

while its good service, im not sure i can afford those right now.

do the tallaght branch do part worns?

Spipov, Walkinstown Tyre Centre opp Superquinn Walkinstown do good part worns for €35 each- the brother in law got four for his car three weeks ago, and they were the best part worn stock I've ever seen.
Ive also used these guys to fit and balance a set of Vredesteins I bought off Camskill a while back.

    100%

I'd hate to see the guys at Discount tyres get an 'internet rep' for selling part worn tyres.Discount tyres are my first stop for the best prices on the best tyres i.e F1's PS3's etc - can't be beaten.

I think Square Tyres do partworns for €30- have no idea what the quality is like though.

    hi Randy

indeed they do - €40 for a corner part worn. however they dont do tracking, and i was trying to see if i could get somewhere that did it all inclusive. I got my last puncture repaired there, so it was ok.

However no tracking - on a rough estimate, if i had to go do the tracking elsewhere, where would people recommend, and whats the rough price for just tracking?

    Thanks

Give Hanover a ring and see what he charges for tracking nowadays.

Picked up a pair of tyres in Discount Tyres today for the missus' car. Happy with the service and the price. Will be going back in a couple of weeks to pick up a pair for my car.
