Hi I'm just wondering how long it takes for revenue to summarize your taxes and have you eligible for a refund? I filed my taxes more than two weeks ago and my file still hasn't been updated..

I did my taxes last year and I had everything completed in two days.

There is just such a huge delay this year. Could it be because it's a busy time of year?

Are you talking about filing an income tax return, form 11 or form 12? Or just a general review of paye for 2012? And was it paper based or online via ROS or PAYE anytime?

It's my tax for the 2012 year end, filed 3 weeks ago and still no updated file. Paye, online.

Online claims through paye anytime are processed automatically without any staff intervention. If they pass through the inbuilt security checks then a P21 balancing statement should issue with 48 hours of input. Any refund due should issue within 3 working days if you input your bank details. A portion of all reviews are selected for double checking which will increase the length of time for any refund to issue. The claims which are selected for verification checks can add days or weeks to the process depending on staff resources and time of year.

I have to say, you're more helpful than the staff that works there.

Thanks for your information, I guess I'm the un lucky verification checks person.

Got that right, just wrote revenue an email stating that monkeys could do a better job than their staff.. Now I'm definitely not going to get my refund :-S

Your snide/almost racists comments are very unfair to staff who work in Revenue. Have made any contact to see the cause of the delay?. I assume you are aware that this is the busiest time of the year for the processing correspondence/refunds etc.

yeah, I rang up and emailed them a few times. Any how I will wait and see what happens..........

The public will soon begin to realise that the non replacement of staff will certainly cause delays. I believe that Revenue has 700/800 less staff than it had 6 years ago.

Most up to date figures I could find from march last year.

    Staffing 1/1/2009: 6,581
    Staffing 1/1/2010: 6,105
    Staffing 1/1/2011: 6,076
    Staffing 1/1/2012: 5,962
    ECF Target 2012: 5,774

Only a portion of those staff work in paye areas. December through to April is the busiest period of the year for PAYE. So limited staff resources coupled with the busiest period of the year equals delays.

Finally some figures to back this point. I really dislike people making up their own...

Limited staff and limited brain power = no chance.

Funny how someone with 10 yrs in private practice tax, a degree, ACCA and AITI qualification cant get a job in Revenue while they deal with people who think motor tax is complicated.

    /fact.
