My New Eating Plan- Your Opinion

    Hi all,

Just to set the scene- I have recently (Sunday) started a new eating plan. I'm not sure how drastic or lenient it is. The reasoning behind it is to tone up and I suppose lose a few pounds. I'm not over weight (67 kg- 5ft 9) but could still be skinnier.

I think (could be wrong) the reason why I haven't toned up in recent attempts was due to my diet. I have being taking in too many carbs and not enough protein.

This has led to the below diet.

Breakfast- Whey Protein Shake (mixed with Low Fat Milk)

Lunch - Salad (Containing lettuce, small amounts of tomato, onion and one medium sized boiled egg)

Dinner - Small portion of meat (Steak, Chicken, Fish) and generous portion of veg (Broccoli, asparagus)

This diet is accompanied by a weight session done 4/5 nights a week and I should also note I’m not looking to get "huge" just to lose the excess fat and be slightly toned.

What are your opinions on the above? Any feedback is much appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't worry about getting huge on that diet. Far too little calories / far too little protein. You could be on about 75g of protein for the day there at a guess. You should be shooting for 2g for every kg of bodyweight in my opinion. Use myfitnesspal app and weigh your food.

Keep the diet to beef, chicken, eggs, nuts, veg, some fruit etc and 3 weights session per week would be more than sufficient for a beginner if you are doing the right thing; look up starting strength or stronglifts.

Sample diet for yourself could be something like below:

    Breakfast - 3 eggs and 100g ham
Lunch - Chicken salad (200g chicken)
    Postworkout - Whey and oats
Dinner - 200g meat and veg

Just a rough guide there but you won't reach your goal unless you change your diet and make sure your training is in order.

I've had very good experiences with the LeanGainsGuide recently. Might be worth a look.

Thanks for the reply Antisocialiser it is much appreciated. My only concern with your sugguested diet is that i wont lose the excess fat that I have? Would this diet still allow me to lose the weight and tone at the same time? Sorry if I sound clueless, its because I am!

Starting reading all the stickies and stuff in this forum. If you want to lose fat, you need to eat regularly, healthy and also getting regular exercise. This will help you tone up. You need to keep your metabolism going all through the day. That's the idea.

You should work out the calories you need for the day for weight loss and eat them in good food! Keep protein high and do resistance training and you will keep your muscle.

Toning up = losing bodyfat so you can see muscle definition.

As dazftw said Read the Stickies. Don't worry about that metabolism malarky; do what ever suits you to get your daily calories predominantly from meat and veg.
