I wonder what will happen about the hd content from bbc 3/4

I suppose it'll get shifted into the graveyard slots - it's a crap move for fans of the likes of Borgen who liked to see it in HD at the same time as BBC 4 unless.

It makes no sense to me. The current situation with the BBC HD channel showing HD programming from BBC2, 3 and 4 is working just fine.

At least with BBC HD, you could be sure that all of the programming on it was in HD. With BBC 2 HD it will probably be mostly upscaled at the moment.

Indeed the plan seems to be a combination of graveyard slot repeats on BBC Two and directing viewers to iPlayer (not an option for Irish viewers of course, since we can only access the subscription-based international iPlayer).

I'd prefer they left BBC HD as is. Alas, it's not to be.

The BBC have announced that on Sky UK, BBC 2 HD will be at channel 142 from next Tuesday and it will only be BBC 2 England HD, there will be no BBC 2 HD nations as in Wales, Scotland or NI. I wonder what will happen here on Irish Sky ? 142 is currently BBC 2 NI SD, will we get BBC 2 England HD at 142 and will they move BBC 2 NI to a different number like they did with BBC 1 NI ?

My guess is we will be left with BBC 2 NI SD.

I hope you're right. The programmes for BBC2 HD are already appearing in the planner for next Tuesday on epg 143

Would that not happen anyway, as currently Programmes in HD for BBC2 are simulcast on BBC HD and presumably right now, Sky boxes are not aware that BBC HD shuts down at 6am next Tuesday ? Without an update, presumably the box still thinks that 143 will still be BBC HD next Tuesday ?

I imagine BBC 2 NI will stay where it is and BBC HD will turn into BBC 2 HD

Indeed. How depressing to see the number of programmes on the new BBC2 HD channel .. that aren't in HD

It looks like you are correct about BBC HD on 143 becoming BBC 2 HD, if you check the Epg on the BBC HD channel for 1.20am next Tuesday, it says " From 6am the BBC HD channel wil be replaced by a new channel, BBC TWO HD. There should be no need to retune your receiver ".

Thank God for a Freesat box.

BBC HD is going out in a blaze of geek-glory though: a looped programme of recreated Test Cards since the 1940s will be on overnight.

so they are not going to show HD from bbc 3/4 on late slots at all then? I was hoping they would. I'm guessing it will be a long time before we see bbc 3 & 4 HD

Switchover from BBC HD to BBC2 HD seems to have been quite straighforward - on my Humax recordings scheduled for BBC HD have swapped over to BBC2 HD so it just seems to have been a straight rename and rebrand.

This is the galling thing, at the risk of annoying the Celtic fringe if BBC1 Scotland, NI and Wales were kept SD for now then BBC3/4 could have gone HD and that overall would have made more sense I think (how many opt out programmes need HD for a better viewing experience?)

BBC 2 HD now on Sky on 143. BBC 2 NI is on 142.

Must have changed during the day, BBC2 HD now on 142 and BBC2 NI on 143.

Probably depends whether you have the HD package or not

Good man, that explains it ! I have the HD package, I was wondering why it was different on my EPG.

Swapped around for me too over the course of the day! I have the HD pack.

Just a shame they can't push the nordy BBC 1 onto 215 and put the uk version onto 141.

That's how it is with a HD sub

And therein lies the problem. Paying them nearly 90 a month with multi-room and sports. HD should be a given but sadly Sky demonstrate quite plainly what all our textbooks as kids said you will get with a monopoly. Getting silly now and we are seriously considering going the triple combo route unless I can screw a deal out of them.

I've never paid the full rate for HD or Sports, I ring to cancel each year and so far I've been offered good deals to keep them.

It's strange for non-HD pack customers who have a HD box, that BBC One HD is on 215 and BBC Two HD is on 143

Wud it not make sense to swap the 2 numbers?

BBC Two HD is free, you don;t need the HD pack, why are you paying?

I am not paying for HD pack I refuse to as its already expensive enough and I feel we should get it as part of the service anyway. But as another poster said since my boxes are HD (Amstrads) then it is surely Skys way of trying to annoy you into buying their HD pack by putting BBC 1 HD onto 215 and leaving the NI SD one on 141. Same goes for RTE 2 HD on 115.
