One Year to Make a Change

Inspired by the Sky One show of a similar name last year...we're offering someone the chance of free guidance/advice/help for one year for one person.

We'd like to give this position to someone who can make a real change over the course of a year, not only with regard measurements and visual appearance, but possibly an extension of their lifespan. It's for these reasons that we'd like applicants in the obese category. We know there are readers of this very forum that have no idea where to start and find exercise and nutrition an intimidating field with contradictory advise floating around on both.

We believe we've got a friendly non-intimidating/non-judgemental atmosphere, a big issue we believe in getting people currently in the obese category to step foot inside any gym.

So we're putting a call out, we want to change one person's life who is currently in this category and desperately wants to change their life, but unsure of where or how to start, for FREE.

No fad diets, no biggest loser style drilling of people into the ground, no silly supplements...the same sensible and flexible approach we take with the rest of our clients.

It will however require discipline and hard work, there are unfortunately no alternatives and anyone selling you anything less should be avoided and ignored. There'll be good days, great days, and pretty terrible days on the journey.

As we're both dedicating some of our time and energy to this, there will be a few rules that we'd like the applicants to be aware of, and this has ruled a couple of people out already. There won't be an 80pg contract but we do want to know they are as committed as we are so there may be some kind of yet to be decided form of contract. Before/After and maybe progress pictures will be part of the deal, along with writing a monthly blog post update on both goals you've hit and or pitfalls. We'd like you to inspire others on the same route. A GP check-up would be a good idea too.

    What you'll get from us...
We'll give you all the information you need to set you on the road, we'll take you into the gym, go through some movements/technique/exercise. Write you programmes, and diet plans if necessary. We'll do regular weigh-ins and/or measurements to give you some sort of accountability too, along with online/email support. We'll do some sessions one to one too when the time allows. (Our paying customers will obviously take precedence here)

We'll also give you full gym membership for the year. If you're intimidated by this, please don't be, this part is not obligatory, exercise can be done outdoors or from your own home initially and can be discussed.

You can apply by sending us a brief description of yourself and the level you're currently at along with a few goals; either through facebook messages/emails/PM's etc. hell it's 2013 if you can't find a way to contact us you're not the sort of person we're looking for!

Any questions, please fire them at us.

Going to bump this up again guys. We've had a very small pool of people entering this, and as yet noone really suitable. I really thought we'd be inundated, but I think we may be approaching this from the wrong angle.

Anybody any ideas on how to get this in front of someone it might help?

I would change the thread title to "1yr Free Gym Membership", will get more hits

Absolutely brilliant. I can't believe you've not been inundated. I would have loved to have been able to do this. Put my health and fitness in some capable hands and let you have at me. Personally I would love to have a coach for a year. Well done guys.

I'll get in touch with a mod right away...good idea, I don't stray out of this forum really.

I know, it's a strange one, but I think (funnily enough) this is the wrong forum for it. I thought long and hard about the wording so as not to discourage or intimidate anyone, but still think that's a big issue.

When you think about it, you're looking for someone that wouldn't really post in this forum....yet.

That's the bit I hadn't previously thought about too, posted on our facebook page too and Irish fitness but for the same reasons, i think it's simply a case of it being in front of the wrong person...preaching to the converted as it were.

Where would the person have to be based to be considered for this?

Also, will the person have to be classified obese by a medical professional or by the BMI chart or how?

Can you post the facebook page please?

    Earth.

    Earth.

The OP mentions a gym membership, I'm assuming they're not offering a gym membership anywhere on "Earth".

    I know...it's a shame...I'm being discriminated against.

Anywhere in Dublin or the surrounding areas really. The gym is based in Sandyford so it will involve one trip to the gym for weigh-in roughly once per week.

As for programming/exercise that can be done wherever the person likes and is most comfortable, free membership will be included...we'll just help them along, give some accountability, motivation, diet advice and strategies, along with a few one to one sessions as needed to keep technique and motivation up.

    Facebook page is...https://www.facebook.com/BodyHealthAndFitness?

Ah that's a pity. Good luck with it anyway, you might get an influx of people now that "Summer" is approaching.

You haven't let yourself go have you?

It might also be good to create it as an event page on facebook for the offer/event, that way people can share the page to everyone on their list etc.

    @ CMYK
one other thing, for some reason some pictures on boards.ie are blocked when i view boards in work (might be the case for a few people) you dont mention the gym name in your original post ( i'm presuming the picture is a logo?)

Great! I must drop you a line actually to see if you're interested regarding another (commercial) project, think we touched on it before...I just need to actually find more than 3mins to sit down and put some thought to it.

You might as well say it here....obviously no one is paying to this thread :)

And potentially spoil the two and a half minutes work I've already put into it...no way.

Have you tried giving the radio option a try? Type of thing the Ray Darcy show and the likes lap up. Especially since they gave the Gary Kirwin lad such support over the year too

I went to great lengths to get something else on his show before to no avail but you're right, he who dares rodders.
