A thread of its own for the world matchplay seeing as there should be a good bit of interest for it :)

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/golf/21496311
World Match Play: Rory McIlroy & Tiger Woods are top seeds

World number one Rory McIlroy will play Shane Lowry in the first round of the WGC Match Play Championship in Arizona.

The Northern Irishman, who was beaten by American Hunter Mahan in last year's final, plays Ireland's Lowry who gained his place when Phil Mickelson withdrew.

Three-times winner and world number two Tiger Woods takes on fellow American Charles Howell III on Wednesday.

England's Luke Donald plays Germany's Marcel Siem, while Justin Rose starts against South Korea's KJ Choi.

Donald, who won the title in 2011, is ranked third and heads the Sam Snead quarter of the draw while McIlroy and Woods are the top seeds in the Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan sections.

The fourth bracket is led by number four seed Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa.

The top 64 players in the world are eligible to play in the tournament, which pits golfers against each other in a series of knockout matches - Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker's decision to pull out, opened the door for Lowry and Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson, who will play reigning Open champion Ernie Els.

Defending champion Mahan opens his campaign against Matteo Manassero of Italy, while other stand-out ties include England's 2010 champion Ian Poulter playing Scotland's Steven Gallacher and Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell taking on Ireland's Padraig Harrington.

Link above doesn't seem to be working slave1.

Should be a great week of golf. Think the Shane v Rory match will be surprisingly close. Also think Padraig will send Graeme home early.

In a way the only downside to the draw is that 2 of the Irish have to go out in 1st round. Still though they should both be interesting games.

Thinking about this again you probably have to go for the four top seeds since statistically they should have the best change of reaching the semi's. Then match play specialists like Poulter or Westwood and then a few dark horses like Scott and Els.

Paul Lawrie is my dark horse for the week.

That's one way of looking at it...another is that its the only sure way to have 2 Irish in the last 32.

Scrap this, just found out you obviously have to pick members of the ET so back to the drawing board!!

GMac, Rory and Shane all very active on the tweet machine tonight.
Never a good sign, shows a lack of focus imo.
Didn't Rory say last year that tweeting during competition had put him off and that he was gonna stop.

They seem to stay of it in the days leading up to a competition, and for good reason, I don't see why they think going on twitter during a suspension in play is a good idea.

(Yes I am a bit p*ssed off with no golf tonight) :)

Boredom! Not able to hit the range or practice green. Even with all the cash they still have to just sit around!

Poulter thinks there is "zero chance" of golf starting on time in the morning. He could be right....

Sunrise is 7.06am local time. If they stand any chance then they'd want a good few hours of strong sunlight to clear the course. It's also giving sub zero at night so i can see play been pushed back a few hours at least this afternoon and possibly even a Monday finish.

It was a lot more than suspension of play, they knew they weren't getting any golf and it was one of the more unusual stoppages, especially in Arizona!

Most players in the field on twitter were on it last night. Really don't see the problem.

They will hardly be standing over a putt worried about a reply somebody gave them or something they said.

No, I'm sure they wont be worrying about a reply when standing over a putt.

I just think any golfer that isn't involved in it is getting a mental edge.

There's a reason they don't tweet in between rounds of a competition, yes, they normally practice in between, but there is also enough downtime to go on twitter if they wanted.
They don't, it's recognized as a distraction and in a game where the mental edge plays such a factor...match play even more than normal, I just feel that anyone that is focusing their mind on play the next day instead of tweeting is getting that edge.

It's no biggy, I'll get over it :D

Yep, they should all be sitting in their rooms reading Golf World and Bob Rotella books and not conversing with anyone about anything unless it's golf-related. Woe-betide anyone who dares switch off when they are not playing golf.

Gotta disagree with ya there. Fair enough, when they are in "the zone", tweeting or social media would not be good but when they are in the clubhouse with a couple of inches of snow on the ground and knowing that there was nearly zero chance of them getting back out, I really can't see the harm with them communicating with their fans.

Wonder what will happen if play is abandoned for today as well? Has a tournament ever been cancelled due to weather conditions?

I know recently (Hawaii was it?) that it was reduced to 3 days and started on the saturday - please correct me if i am wrong. Tournaments finishing on a monday have an effect on the following weeks event with the pro-am etc.
