Was there uploading pictures when suddenly Facebook logged me out and said there was possibly a virus on my computer. It said its a temporary measure.... Does this mean hours? Days? Until I clear my computer? Can't go on it from my tablet or phone either.

Did anyone ever hear of this happening?

facebook said there was a virus on your computer?
    that doesn't happen.

Sounds like you logged into facebook from a fake facebook website and they got your login details from that and have now locked you out of your own account.
    also, malware..etc..

I'd change all the passwords you can, if it's not too late.

I got exactly this advice in the O2 forum when I had a problem with their website. I wish I was joking.

Apparently it can. It's a security thing they brought in.

    Try to reset your password?

Sounds like you just got hacked.

Might be time to check your security settings and change a few passwords.

Wait, how does facebook do that? unless they've been installing software onto the computer without me knowing it seems hard to do..

Did u manage to get back into your account?

From Facebook: "For the past couple years, we have developed systems to proactively identify spam and other malicious content posted on Facebook by user devices infected with malware. After we identify a possible infection, we will notify the user and provide, free of charge, an anti-virus product capable of cleaning the user's device."

They apparently should give you an option to scan with McAfee or use MS Security Essentials.

The account was fine but I had a program in the account that meant I couldn't send a web text.

Can't be arsed linking on the phone but if you search threads started by me you will find it straight away. I rarely start threads.

Exact same thing just happened to me.

It's throwing up a message to run a McAfee virus thingy, which of course you have to download. 6 Months free and then you can buy it at a very good price. !!!!!

A little Googling and I found articles relating to a years partnership between FB and McAfee. Obviously hasn't been as successful as hoped and now they're down to the hard sell!! Basically you're locked out of FB until you try the mcAfee as far as I can see.
Ran a different virus scanner and still locked out - so have to try the McAfee one

Apparently you should be still able to sign on through Firefox with no problems!!

BTW, I was also uploading photos when it happened.

i was wary it was a scam but all worked out ok it was a genuine email from facebook
