Your licence is going to cost you €80, so if I was you I'd start with an o/u or s/s, after a while with the single barrel you'll want an extra shot or two without reloading.

Between €50 and €100 for one in good nick. Even less if you're lucky.

A new one is about E175 I would buy a new one as they are so cheap.

Your other option would be a harrington and richardson they would be of better quality and are american made they come in a number of different flavours too to suit your taste/needs. I would go with a new one and it'll last many life times if looked after.

Dont bother buying a new one, ring around a few dealers they might have one for real cheap or give you one for free as they might need to free up space.
Don't go new unless you plan on keeping it for years.
As its for a beginner he/she will more then likely like the option of a shotgun that will take more shells in the near future.

For the price some double barrel pre used guns are going for don't overlook them. There are deals to be had out there, just put in the time to find them.

Your better off saving your money and getting a double barrel imo because there is nothing more frustrating then when your out hunting and 2 ducks get up in front of you and you only have one shot, even more annoying when you miss completely then you will wish you had a second shot.

check the irish gun trader website i saw a side by side shotgun for sale for 200 euro.

Ull get a Bakel sxs or under and over for about 250 , all u need for one gun is a trigger lock lest then 50 quid

If ya but a single barrel ur going to want to change in a month , and u will not get rid of it , which means paying for two licences or scrap it .

Dealers are now charging 50 euro to distroyed a gun

Forgive me for asking so many questions.

Have you or someone in your house got a licence for the broken gun?
If its your gun, is it sentimental to you or family? if it's not then get rid of it, work a deal with your gun dealer he destroy your gun in part ex for a shotgun you'll buy off him.

If this is your one and only gun for awhile, just do as its states in the Commissioners guidelines- take the gun apart store in different areas.
    Also get a trigger lock.
This is a cheap and ok security for the time-being, it will allow you more money for a double barrel gun or semi-auto, safety course and licence fee.

If you keep the broken gun (as long as there is a licence on it) you need a safe- save up more money to buy a double barrel or semi-auto shotgun, I had a mate that bought a single barrel for his first gun, he regretted it big time.

He spent more time "F"in and blinding as he was missing birds, had no follow up shot and worst of all when pigeons and crows came in good numbers he couldnt reload fast enough.

I think he means the gun is broken down and stored with a trigger lock on it.

A Sidelock shotgun is a shotgun that has its locks on the side of the gun instead of inside the gun.

If you could increase your budget to around the 400 euro mark you would be able to get a pretty good secondhand over and under. I wouldn't just rush into buying a gun just for the sake of it.Call in to different gun dealers and have a look at the secondhand guns they have and see what gun best fits you.

    Sound info.

Another way to describe a sidelock might be this way, a sidelock is pretty much a hammer gun with the hammers moved inside and attached to the sideplates/lockplates.

A lot of lads I know started with a Baikal single barrell. Some gun alright. Had a Jaymac SB myself. Folded completely in half and you could put it inside your jacket. 3in chamber too. Haven't seen 1 in years

wasting your time getting a single barrell , get yourself a cheap sporter , you can shoot game and clays with it
