I would seriously recommend sticking with 7. Windows 8 on a desktop/laptop is awful! Ive heard that it's good for tablets though

Sorry but I wouldn't know tbh, I just noticed the post and the compulsion to warn you about how sh** Windows8 is

Yep. Complete crap. Probably gonna try get windows 7 again...if you google some reviews on it you'll see it hasn't been well received at all by computer users

What don't you like about it? I have it too and my only problem with it was a lack of a start button but that's easily fixed by downloading Start8. So then essentially you have the style of Windows 7 back (there is a setting so that you never even have to look at the metro start menu) with all the optimizations of Windows 8. My boot times are similar to what you'd see with an SSD and my OS is on a mechanical drive.

Depends. Some pcs have the option of copying the operating image to a USB. You can then install on new pc. I've used this option when increasing the HDD size.
There is also software for taking an image of your current system and applying it to a new HDD.

Yeah I'm gonna get start8, I just find the metro start menu and all the border of the screen crap so infuriating...don't know why they'd mess with a winning formula in the first place

Didnt take me long to see a pattern with Windows versions.
    Always skip a Windows version: 98 + > Millenium - > XP + > Vista - > 7 + > so 8 should be skipped again.

I have done it twice its very straight forward and cheap.

On my gaming rig there is a definite improvement in the frame rate.

Also its not that hard to use, after a couple of hours Im used to it.

There's no improvement in games. Where the hell are people getting this from.

Like you have pointed out before the results of 7 vs 8 are within margin of error, It could just be because Aero is gone and not hogging resources or purely because a clean install/placebo effect ?

I got it from the extra half dozen FPS Im getting playing BF3. Not sure about other people though

If it's installed on a mechanical drive, those few extra FPS could easily come from doing a clean install, if not updated drivers.

Hated Windows 8 when I got it. Re-installed it on an SSD without any bloatware and it's like a different operating system. Won't be going back to 7
