06 Audi A4 Chugging/Hanging

    Hi all,

I have a petrol 06 audi A4 1.6, started it earlier today and it began to chug. Moving along it felt like there was an incredible weight on the car. It just chugs along very slowly.

Plus the engine light has started to flash.
Any ideas? The coolant looks a bit low (not been able to get one so late on a Sunday to put some in), but that would hardly be enough to call this issue, would it?

I guess it's not something I could fix up myself??
    Any help appreciated!

I had 1.8 with similar to what you describe. It was running on 3 cylinders due to faulty maf sensor.

A flashing engine management light means the engine is misfiring. Plug leads and coilpacks both give trouble on those 1.6 A4s so you will need to get it checked out to see which is the root cause in this case.

Flashing EML and chugging I reckon its Coil pack too. €50 part and easy to fit. It would be best to have diagnostic tool to tell you what cylinder is faulty, otherwise you could just swap one by one until you get it right

I don't think that these have individual coils though. And I don't think that it is handy to fit a coil pack either.

    Dead right on both counts!

Thought the 1600's have individual coils also, the 1800's do and they are only a 5 minute job on them

Single coil (in a b1tch of a place) and 4 leads on the old school 1.6 8v ;)

Thanks for the replies guys, took it to my local mechanic. Coil needed replacing, 150 odd for the coil, and yes in a b1tch of a place!
