hi JR23,sorry about your job. A gym seems to be a huge financial outgoing. I was seriously unfit, had the odd stroll if the weather was fine. Now I go out for a run at least 5 times a week. It started as a walk, trotting the odd few steps. Even at that I was panting and very red faced! But, over time it built up. I'm not at marathon stage by a long shot,a serious amateur but I feel fitter, more toned and therefore happier in my self. Even if the weather is bad I try to shove myself out the door. The sense of achievement is massive. So,after all that waffle-I'm trying to say-get out for a walk, trot a bit and build it up. It definitely pays off. Best of luck!

cheers mate i will try the same i use to be so fit when i was younger even just 5 years ago and i really let myself go its an effort now to walk 2 miles which is rather embarrassing for a lad in his mid 20's. yea i see the gyms are quite expensive but i suppose if it could help me in anyway i would pay it.. thanks for your comment and i might just follow suit and start walking with the hope of it turning into a run.
    thanks ross.

Your diet is much more important for losing weight than exercise. It takes a long time to burn off even a small amount of calories. Exercise helps but cutting out junk food, eating smaller meals made of proper food (veg, lean meat, go easy on chips, potatoes, rice, pasta etc) will be the most important thing.

Best way to start is looking into your diet.
Your diet is obviously poor at the moment if you are gaining weight.
Have a look at the stickies , change the bad eating habits and then look into joining a gym.

Gym is also a great source for when feeling low, depressed, down.

If you are putting on weight, then you are eating more than you are burning.

You are unemployed and depressed about it and not motivated to do anything. My sympathies are with you. But, you can change and you can do something about it.

You need to eat less, eat healthily and get up out of bed and do things.

From your OP, I would guess that Joining a gym is not the right thing for you at the moment, If you are not motivated enough to get out of bed, you are not going to go to a gym. Start small.

Start by walking. Walk a lot. Walk fast, get air in your lungs. Do some gardening. Volunteer to walk a neighbours dog. Do anything that gets you outside and using your body. You will feel better, and you will be burning calories.

As was said before, walking will turn into slow jogging and that will turn into running.

Its spring, its lovely outside.Enjoy it,

It sucks to be feeling the way you are op I was there myself for the best part of 3 years now I'm doing triathlons :)

Instead of joining a gym ask around the family or put up a post on facebook asking if anyone has any exercise machines looking for a good home. There's bound to be a few that have become clothes hangers by folks with the best of intentions.

Aswell as looking into your diet you have to be consistent and don't do to much to soon. Most of all do something you enjoy running may not be for you and there's no point if you don't enjoy it you'll give up quickly. seeing as you're over weight see if somebody has a cross trainer it's a lot easier on the knees if you haven't been active in a long while.

To keep track of your progress have a weigh in for yourself every Sunday morning it's not an exact method but it'll give you a goal each week.

Instead of analyzing your diet just cut out all the snacks and sugars. those 2 sugars in the tea/coffee add up. Eventually if you keep this up your weight loss will begin to plateau then you can have a closer look at what you're eating and what your body needs.

Also cut out all the carbonated drinks and start lowering the water ice cold is better.

If you keep in your head eat less move more you'll be surprised at how quickly you shift the fat.

Oh another thing allow yourself one cheat meal be it a take away or a beer and a packet of crisps hard work deserves a reward.

Good Luck and hope you stick with it. :)
