Netflix _ What do I need?

    Daughter wants netflix.
We don't have an x-box, wii, HDTV, smart TV, blue ray, MAC or tablet.

I have a pc not near a tv and a laptop that I need to run an application not near the main tv.
I have an old dell laptop with poor screen quality but it doesn't have a HDMI connector. I have Sky

How can I view netflix without buying more kit?

You could go messing with VGA and audio cables, but the easiest option is to buy a cheap graphics card with HDMI and stick it in the PC.

Thanks but my pc is in upstairs and the main tv is downstairs and I don't think her indoors would like cables running all over the house or a pc sitting beside the tv.

You can pick up a 2nd hand Wii for approx 40-60 euro, prob your cheapest option unless you want a blu ray player, 80-100 for netflix capability

    Sorry, I read it wrong.

Some PC's are tiny by the way...http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056862121

There's a Roku LT box for about €60 that does Netflix. No idea if its any good though.

I would second the Wii idea. It is the simplest route to go and very easy to navigate for all the family.

Like said earlier, around 40 to 60 euro for a second hand wii... and even cheaper is one that has a faulty cd drive.

Does Wii do HD? I'm not sure there are HDMI cables for it? Analog only AFAIK. A better option may be to keep an eye out for a PS3 with a broken drive. In this day and age I wouldn't buy anything that doesn't do HD as Netflix is HD

Edit: I see you can get component cables

Using the AV the Wii ships with will not give HD, like these, you need the component cable like above

Even so, it's possible they will have one at some stage. Can you even buy a non HD TV anymore

If you buy a decent HD tv it will be netflix compatible, OP just needs something to tide him over in the meantime I thought?

My point exactly, OP stated he doesn't have a HDTV hence why i suggested the Wii.

Sorry to come across as a neanderthal. I don't have a HD tv but the one I have is only 1 year old and has HDMI connections at the rear.

Not in the stone age just no interest, and yes there is electricity in my house.

So I'm looking for a busted wii to do the trick?

If it has HDMI inputs then it's a HDTV. It doesnt matter whether its 720p or 1080p, it's still a HDTV and ideally you want to make use of the HDMI connection.

As above, if the tv can receive saorview, its hd.
It means you have more options now. As you said, a Wii will do the job, its not hd, but your daughter may lose interest in netflix after the 30 day trial. Of you think its worth it, get a blu ray player that's netflix capable .
Just a question, have you looked to see if your tv has a network port? Something only 12 months old could very well have one.

It has a USB port. Must look for the manual for it and see what it can do.

It will be for a memory stick, you put movies on it, plug it in & you can watch them on the tv
