The Flu: He's not here, he's out with friends

Hello, been with a guy for almost 2 years. Ups and downs. Usual in a relationship. He's 35 i'm 27.

I've had colds in the past but now I have the flu.

He never came round when I had colds because he didn't want to be infected, he said so himself.

I was sent home from work with the flu yesterday and got straight into bed. He was out last night with his co-workers for a few beers and called me before he went to bed to ask how I was.

Today he called and commented on how "sick" i sounded. And that he hopes it's ok but that he's going out with a mutual friend of ours for lunch. He said he'll come over tonight to make me some dinner.

Is this normal in a relationship? Should he not want to come over to me now and at least take care of me?

I don't force him into doing anything but I thought this is what being in a relationship was all about, taking care of each other, is it ?

    I am so confused.

If it's an injury or something, sure, but the flu is pretty contagious, and you need rest anyway. I think he's probably doing the right thing.

He called, he checked, he's going to wait a while and then cook you dinner. Sounds nice to me.

It's about what I'd expect, tbh, if you live seperately.

I think he's being fine, but you're so sick and feel so rotten that you're all sensitive. And you probably wish someone could take care of you - I get that, the flu makes you feel very low and helpless.

The question is whether you have been dissatisfied with his level of care/interest for a while now and you're projecting that onto this occasion.

Whilst you do have the flu, realistically there isn't a whole lot he can do for you except cook you dinner.

He might figure that you want some time on bed to recover. The guys gonna make you dinner, give him a break.

    Get well soon :)

Honestly OP I think he's been very good. He checked with you this morning, made sure you were ok and will call round later to cook for you. What more could he really do? I've been in bed with flu for the past four days and honestly all I've wanted to do is sleep. My OH picked up my meds, got me food, feed my cat and left me alone the rest of the time. I'm not sure what more he could have done. I'm far to sick and snotty to want him in the room with me and my head is too wozzy to really hold a conversation for very long. Get some rest OP and look forward to your food later, be glad your not forced out to look for food when your feeling like crap.
