My best friend is getting married, & just starting to look for her wedding dress. She's a very beautiful girl, but unfortunately she doesn't realise this & is very conscious of her body shape. She keeps saying she's not very bridal, & feels like she's never going to find a dress that looks good on her. We've been looking at lots of dress photos online, but very little is appealing to her. But!!!!...... We found an Australian designer called Gwendolynne whose dresses she loves. She actually described one of them as perfect :-)
Only problem now is..... we can't find any stockists on this side of the world :-(
Anyone ever come across this brand over here or in the u.k.? I would really love if I could help my friend find the dress of her dreams, cos she's so good to me & one in a million. Thanks so much.....

Oh wow, those are beautiful. I don't know any stockists, but has your friend tried on any vintage dresses yet? A lot of those dresses look very vintage-inspired. There are some lovely vintage shops in cork and dublin. A friend of mine just got a dress from the 30's quite like some of those.

Have you tried contacting the designer direct? They'll be able to tell you where the stockists are.

According to the website there are no stockists outside of Australia, she would have to go to Melbourne to order it. Would she consider getting a dress made, she could get something very similar made locally if standard bridal wear doesn't appeal to her.

Jenny Packham does similar dresses, Sharon Hoey stocks it and Hoey's dresses would be in that vein.

Tell her to visit Myrtle Ivory in Dublin. They stock beautiful dresses that aren't run of the mill bridal.
Claire Pettibone, David Fielden and Romona Keveza are among the designers she will find there.

    wow they are gorgeous!

My advice would be to check out small bridal shops in country towns, they have some gorgeous dresses that may not be as "bridal" as the bigger shops.

thanks so much for all the replies. she has actually tried on a few jenny packham dresses, just yesterday, & she really liked them, so good call there :D Unfortunately they're a bit out of her budget, so i think we'll have to keep looking. maybe we'll try some of the vintage shops as suggested.
re myrtle ivory - I bought my own dress there & I agree, they have beautiful, quite unusual dresses. mine is a claire pettibone & i love it :)

If your friend likes JP, perhaps have a look on Preloved? Or look for a sample sale?

She could try Memories Bridal in Parliament Street also (are you in Dublin?) They sell pre loved dresses, so you can get a designer dress at a frection of the cost if it's near enought to her size she can get alterations done to fit. I didn't make it there as I found my dress elsewhere before the appointment, but I hear they're great and when I phoned them up initially for an appointment, they were very helpful. Best of luck with all, B.

Unfortunately is Jenny Packham is out of her price range, Gwendolynne will be as well. Each dress is breaded to your body shape and they are approximately $AU 6, 000 upwards.
As she is an Australian designer have a look on stillwhite.com.au for secondhand dresses. I will vouch for her beading, it is impeccable, so I wouldn't worry about missing beads etc on a secondhand dress. Even her samples in the studio that have been tried on by heaps of girls look like they could be worn down the aisle tomorrow.
Her designs are really flattering and ALL her dresses are breathtaking on. The only thing I would say is that occasionally (with the sheaths) the waist is not overly defined so if you want waist definition look for one with some beading running horizontal at the waist.
I actually think a lot of her dresses look better on real brides that they do on the models, they really work for women with curves.
    Good luck.
