Hi, I ordered the following last night as I wanted a decent htpc that will also do for some light gaming. I built my last pc about 7 years ago:eek: so I have been away for a while. I have no experience with xmbc but I'm told that this is the route to go down, so how does this look:

    so how does this look

    Expensive

There is a MultiMedia Barebone PC - €114.95 Delivered. [Amazon.de] in bargain alerts and a thread on here too about it.... just add some RAM and your windows 7 or 8 and it is more than enough power to run a full htpc.

Im currently running XBMC and other software off an old dell optiplex running XP that i got on donedeal for about €30, then added a hdmi graphics card and a cheap remote. All in for a total of €90.

Your shopping list there seems to be coming in just shy of a thousand euros! You could buy six barebone PCs as above inc all ram and software needed for that money.

My advice is cancel your order and just buy a smaller HTPC rig. 8 gig, an i5 processor and a machine that will probably idle at 200watts just is complete overkill in my mind... just my two cents.

Thanks for your reply, I did mention that I would be doing a bit of gaming also, otherwise I probably would have went for the arctic although it is a bit overkill I admit!

XBMC needs little to run... 2 gig RAM approx and only a quarter of that if running just on Openelec. (you wouldn't need windows if going the openelec route at all then cause it just boots directly into XBMC).

Fair enough, you will be gaming too and it is a very powerful and nice build you have planned there, but in my own personal mind its not worth the extra ~€750 just for the gaming end of things.

Even the guys on here running multiple sat and digital tv inputs into their machines for live TV wouldn't be spending anything over €500 for a full build.
