    Hi all,

Built my own gaming machine about 3 years ago and feel it's time to upgrade some components, without breaking the bank either.

This is what I bought back then:
    1 PCS 435946 Gigabyte GA-MA78G-UD3H, Socket-AM2+/AM3
    AMD 780G+SB700, ATX, DDR2 , Firewire, GbLAN, HDMI, PCI-Ex(2.0)x16

    1 PCS 339129 OCZ Platinum DDR2 PC6400 4GB KIT CL5
    w/two 2048MB PC6400 XTC, CL5-5-5-4
    1 PCS 345459 Gigabyte Poseidon 310 GZ-AA3CB-SJB
    Black, Aluminium Front (Without PSU)
    1 PCS 343135 OCZ StealthXStream Powersupply ATX/EPS,
    500W, 120mm Fan, 20/24pin
    1 PCS 343055 Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA2
    32MB 7200RPM
1 PCS 451982 AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
    3,2Ghz, AM3, 8MB, 125W, Boxed
    1 PCS 333430 Logitech G5 Laser Mouse,
    USB

1 PCS 351905 Roccat Sense Mouse Pad,
    Glacier Blue
    1 PCS 335463 Creative Fatal1ty gamer headset m/mic
    40mm Neodymium drivers, remote
1 PCS 433505 Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard Mirror
    Illuminated, US-Layout

Since then I have upgraded my own GFX twice, now have a Radeon HD7850 2GB which I'm happy with. Upgraded PSU to 1200W Thermaltake Toughpower which I bought in 2009.

I'm confident the PSU is on the way out due to constant reboots with no crash dump and no error message or BSOD. Have been stress testing the RAM etc and no problems so it doesn't seem to be that, though I wouldn't rule out a RAM upgrade if it would be beneficial.

Am not an expert by any means, just know some basics and enjoy playing around with components, but wouldn't want to spend more than €400 tbh, I play a lot of CS:GO and BF3 with the odd game of FC3 and Dishonored etc thrown in.

    Thanks for help in advance.

SSD upgrade, I think, would suit you best. 256GB Crucial M4/Samsung 830/Samsung 840 Pro (not non-pro).

Also, a heatsink, if you don't have one for the CPU and you should be able to overclock an extra 0.5GHz.

Yeah I agree about the SSD, PC is very sluggish alright. Going to give a fresh install of W7 tonight and a defrag. Would I benefit from a new mobo and CPU? Will be 4 years old in Summer. Seems a bit dated! Thinking of going with Intel also.

Well it's not really a bad system at all as yet. I'd be more inclined to wait for the new socket 1150 to appear around June rather than upgrading the CPU. You haven't really got many options for upgrading the CPU - well there's the Phenom X6s of course, but I think you'd be best off overclocking for a bit of a boost and save.

The F1 hard drive is fairly slow, so I'd say that's what is holding back your system the most. Maybe even a new SSD + HDD combination would be to your advantage. You could carry these onto a new system too.
