Between Marathon Training

    While I know that 100's of marathon training plans exist, how does one approcah training for a marathon inbetween marathons?

    My plan is to run Cork & Dublin this year but needless to say it would be pointless to start the training plan for the Cork marathon all over again for Dublin!?

    Any advice?

    I ran my first marathon in Waterford and followed hal Higdon's novice supreme plan which is a 30 week programme. I had no running experience to speak of. Took 2 weeks break from structured running, just a few easy 4 milers to help recovery. Then I jumped into the 3rd week of Hals intermediate 2 plan for Dublin. This gave me 16 weeks of the 18 week programme. Worked a treat for me.

    What are your goals? It would be common enough to look to build on the fitness developed for your first marathon so that you can take your training to the next level and do Dublin in a faster time. It all depends on your goals though.

    If you just want to complete the marathon you could pick a different training plan to the first one that addresses different aspects of training and pick it up at the point where you would finish the plan in time for Dublin.

    Alternatively you could take a look at the Pfitzinger and Daniels book - Advanced marathoning. They have lots of different plans and provided you're willing to start off at 32 mpw there'll be something that will suit you.

    Happy to give you a little more specific advice if you can tell us where you are, what your goals are and what time commitments you plan to make.
