Will it start? Is it stuck in gear?

In short - if you start the engine, put the 1st gear, release handbrake, press accelerator and release clutch what exactly happens?

the car tries to move but just say its in 1st gear, the back of the car raises up but doesn't move, heard that you can get a piece of timber and put it to 1 of the wheels and hit the timber with the hammer, which wheel though?

i,ve had that happen before it is brake problem the only way i got it sorted was in reverse it seemed to free it quicker than going forward hope this helps it will lift but it will be fine after that as stated above a tap with a hammer on both drums

you could jack the front of the car up and check if the tyres move freely, then check the back.

I would genuinely like to see it.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

    IMHO hand brake seized.

Try to lie under the rear of the car, and see where parking brake cables are connected to drums (from the inside of the wheels).
On some cars there is little handle which they operate - if so try to move it towards the rear of the car.
If not take the rear wheels of and bang the drums with a hammer. Don't worry - you won't break the drums - use a bit of power.

PS - use normal hammer - not sledge.

Engine off. Put it into reverse. Let the hand brake of and jack up the rear wheels. put a wheel wrench onto one of the nuts and jump on it righty tighty so it doesn't just open the nut.

Above they mean put a block of wood against the brake drum and hit it with a hammer.

jack up the car at each wheel and see if each will spin when you try to turn it by hand.

Whack both, fingers crossed that the lining of the shoe hasn't come loose.

If parking up for a while, leave a block behind one of the wheels and the car in gear, with the hand brake off.
