Hi guys, it's getting close to time to change tyres on the car again and I'm looking for suggestions for replacements, I'd like to hear from those with experience of their suggestions.
    Size is 225/45/17
Basically I'm looking for good grip and wear at a good price, I've been quoted e70 for Semperet, sounds good but I've no idea if they are

I've never heard of Semperet, but at 70 quid a corner for that size they're simply too cheap to be any use.

    Hankook K110 Ventus V12 Evo
    http://camskill.co.uk/m54b0s16p106878/Hankook_Tyres_Car_Hankook_K110_Ventus_V12_Evo_Hankook_K_110_-_225_45_R17_94Y_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_70dB

Had them in that size on a mk1 seat leon and found them great. Lasted very well too.
I would have no problem getting them again

Really? They are knocking about a good while. They use to sponsor something motor related on RTE

Im not saying they are any good now:D

Well i have been living under a rock for quite a while so who knows:p

Kumho, hankook, Vredestein, Falken, Uniroyal are all brands I would be looking at on a budget. Good tyres, and generally not that pricey.

Have kumho's on mine at the minute and I can't fault them, they may need replacing soon enough however

Where did you get that quote? We sell Semperits in that size but they are €110 each. I very much doubt they can be gotten for €70...

I've never heard of Semperet, ...
Semperit. They had a huge factory in Dublin (Drimnagh / Long Mile?) back in the 70's. I think even then they cost more than €70 a corner for 17's :)

all depends how you usually drive. for me tyres are important safety factor and I'm not the slowest driver on earth, so I prefer cheaper from premium brands. michelin sport pilot3 is tyre I use and can highly reccomend them. very good grip on wet roads. Before I had goodyear f1 assymetric2, they were brilliant, but lasted for 20-25k kms only.

I'm a big miler, vast majority of time will be spent on the motorways, longevity would be high on my list.

I got 25-30k miles out of my Hankooks and that was mostly hard back road driving. Should get a good bit more with motorway driving

Semperit is now a sub brand of Continental so I wouldn't expect them to be ditch finders per se.

I put Michelin potenza adrenalines on my 320d in that size on Tuesday. Very grippy when being thrown into corners but car doesn't seem to bite the road as much when braking.. €120 a side, but I probably could have pushed for a few more euro

Quote was €280 for 4, or €300 for the set including balancing and wheel alignment, thought it was pretty good, it's a local guy, probably after our fleet, from what I'm reading above he'll be getting the business;)

I reckon he must have gotten the size wrong to be honest. No way can he make a living selling 225/45 17 Semperits for that money ;)

Yes way, I have it in writing, if you're right he'll be getting the servicing, tyres etc for 12 cars off that price alone (btw I didn't mention that to him), I'd say he's smart enough, was very competitive for replacement springs too.

Post up his details in that case. I'll buy a few sets off him for stock ;)

I'm in the market for tyres for my TDi too but really don't have a lot of cash. I'd probably have max €240 excluding fitting...any suggestions?

    205 55 R16

    205 55 R16

€240 excluding fitting would equate to roughly €300 for a set so €75 per tyre fitted and balanced. You will get something reasonably decent for that price if you shop around. Someone posted on here last week that they got Hankooks in that size for €75 each which would be a great deal if you can find them for that price.

Thanks, absolutely no advice was given hence my response, double it for your contribution also, please don't take up anymore space with useless comment on my attitude when it's comment on tyres I'm after.

Will PM it to you, want some stock left if I take the offer up ;)

Anyway and more to the point, what's your opinion of the Semperets? Are they a good mileage tyre or more a summer gripper etc.

Semperits are a good quality tyre. I would put them in the same bracket as Hankook, decent but not quite as good as the premium brands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,088 ✭✭✭sean1141

Anything in a 205/45r16 down there George?

Would like a michelin pilot primacy as there is a brand new one on my spare!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Only have budget in stock Sean, Nokian or something like that. I don't think those Pilot Primacys are available aftermarket, they are mainly an OE tyre, check with Keith in Discount Tyres to be sure ;)
