Have yet another damn outbreak of Trichomonosis in my area, about 3 days ago 3 very sick greenfinches turned up and they all died that night and the following morning and still more sick ones today.
Caught one this evening and I have him in a cardboard box with sunflower hearts and water in a warm dark room, in the small chance he is alive tomorrow is there anything that can be done for him, would a vet be any use?

I've taken in the feeders of course, has anyone else had much of a problem with this parasite?

You could probably treat him with a wormer if he's not too far gone, but the dose would be tiny and probably best done by a vet.

This is caused by dirty feeding stations and feeding stations that are not move. My feeders are moved every other day and the feeders are washed every few day and definitely every time I refill them

Yep I've read a lot about hygiene and these diseases so I've been using Ark-klens for a couple of weeks now and rotating between feeders. I'm thinking theres other people in my area who might be helping spread it unfortunately as I'm in town. Another 2 sick birds today :(

I see photos most days of birds at dirty feeding stations. Most times a Brambling photo is shown its on the ground feeding among a lot of seed. Many people who feed birds don't seem to care. I saw a photo this week of a small tree with about 20 Greenfinches. This guy feeds large quantities of seed on the ground in one place. I would broad cast it over the garden. His nyger feeders are so dirty

This time of the year some finch species are feeding each other mushed seeds from their crops are parts of their courtship, which spreads the trich. According to Birdwatch, if you have sick birds, you can continue putting out peanut feeders but stop feeding seeds and no bird baths. But I would hang the peanuts well away from anywhere that other feeders have been.
