    Hi there,

I hope I'm putting this question into the right forum.

There are a number of offerings from different companies, like LG & Samsung, with converters to upgrade a standard TV to a smart TV. Does anyone have any experience of these and would they recommend their unit?

I am looking for a unit that would allow me to watch Netflix, Slingbox and the new Tesco TV if it is launched. Skype, Facebook etc does not matter for me.

I'm assuming these are small devices similar to a media player and which attach to your home broadband (wired or Wi-Fi) and connect to the TV with a HDMI cable. In my opinion you'd be as well off upgrading your DVD player to a recent Blu-Ray model from the likes of Sony, LG or Samsung because that's far more likely to be upgradable in terms of firmware thereby allowing the device to handle new services.

Lots of modern Blu-Ray players will give you SmartTV facilities to access NetFlix etc..

    Hi CoyleMJ,

I didn't want to go down the route of BluRay players etc.

I have been surfing around & came across a very neat gizmo called the Pocket TV. There is a review here - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2405457,00.asp

But I also found a downloadable app for XBMC that will work on the Raspberry Pi. I have a few Pi knocking about the house and will try this out at the weekend. This is a very cost effective way for me to do this.

You could also search for 'Android on a stick' ..... lots of options out there at reasonable prices ;)
