    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how many times the word love is in every English translation of the Bible?

    I found this reference

    Anyone got a better one?

    Regards

    cat Bible.txt | grep -i "Love" | wc -l;
    Ans 552

To really do a frequency analysis as per link, better option would be to go with Python with its good text parsing modules.:)

Aren't the answers in the back of the book?

    Perl I'd say.

What type of love are you talking about? The Bible uses different word to describe different types of love.

That's your theory, but there's plenty of death ans destruction too.

Anyone can sit down and read anything and make it sound full if love tolerance and understanding.

Little red riding hood could be easily used as a way to put across a good message,or the maintenance manual of a fishing reel for that matter :S

    You are titling at windmills

It all depends if the wind is blowing east, west, north or south.

I can say ill let this go because I love you, someone else can say I can't let you go because I love you ;)

Sorry Fanny I shouldn't have jumped in there with my red riding quote.

As we all see things differently,or we look for what we want to see.

No doubt the Quoran has good quotes too,as does the Bible that's if we have the patience, tolerance and mindset to go there :S

    Good question.

I understand the philo, agape and eros thing.

But for this question, I just mean the word "love" and I am only referring to English editions.

Then I'd recommend picking a translation and run a search-

But your problem is not just Greek words for "love"; it's English words. Older translations will often use "charity" where newer translations use "love"; I don't know that you can draw any meaningful conclusions from that.

Christians constantly tell us that their doctrine is centered around love.

One thing that gets me about some Christians is the way they say they love gay people as Jesus would but still contend their private gay actions are sin just like murder is a sin.

In my opinion, this is not love.

But if you dig deeper you can show that Christianity has never really been sure what love actually is and has evolved / changed its mind on the matter. Evangelicals said it a lot as a marketing slogan but to an outside it just looks like a warped expression of intolerance.

The trap has been sprung! With plodding pace we have arrived at the crux of the thread.

Why you start these tedious "I have a question, Christian!" threads seems clear to me. You get some rhetorical flurry into your head and then think about what manner of thread affords you the opportunity of springing it on people.

No matter the responses you received you where always going to reply with your above post.

You need a new trick, Tim, because this one is now boring.

    Permabanned for repeated trolling.
