What's wrong with my ford focus?

    Hey,

I have a 2001 ford focus. After I got a car wash today the battery light came on. It went off when driving with revs over 1700.

Then the engine light came on, then the airbag light came on as the engine lught switched off.

The car then died (I don't know what lights are on cos it won't start) it went as if it was running out of fuel.

Any idea on what the problem might be? While I wait on the break down people.

(Altenator and battery were replaced a few months ago)

I also have no electrics right now. I can only have one thing on at a time. (Radio or lights or reds or heating)

Might be just the alternator belt

Would that be an expensive problem?

Unplug your spark plug leads and see if any water got lodged there.

No it was just an auto car wash.

Absolutely not , 20 to 60 inc labour, should have been done with alternator however understandable if not , but there is also s chance re con alternator is faulty, warranty should cover it if so

It could be just a coincidence so. It sounds like an altenator problem though.

I got my car to a mechanic. They said the engine light was saying that there was a O2 sensor problem.

They turned it off and it hasn't came back on. The battery light went off and they can't find a problem with the altenator or battery.

But the lights and interior electrics are dimming now and then for a few minutes at a time, getting brighter and dimmer.

If I turn as much electrics as possible on in the car then the electrics stop dimming.

Did the steering get heavy on it before it died? The altenator went on my 06 Focus (1.6 tdci) 3 years ago. Same symptoms. Lights coming on, going off, steering getting heavy as no power going to it.

Yea the steering went heavy as it was dyeing, but I thought that would be expected since the car is loosing power.

The mechanic is now saying that it could be a new coil pack or alternator. When they are testing it its changing from bellow 12 volts up to 16 volts.

    Sounds like the Alternator.
