Hey guys just finished building my pc. When I try to check windows index experience it shuts down. I think its the psu not able to handle it.
    spec is:

    asrock b75 pro3
    i5 3330
    his hd 7850 2gb
    8gb
    120 ssd
    500 hdd
    the case has 4-5 fans
the psu is jeantech 500w(got it with case so guessing it's not great :)

I was looking at this psu

    http://www.dabs.ie/products/corsair-500w-builder-series-cx-80--bronze-atx-power-supply-8CDD.html?src=3

would this be ok or would I need something more powerful?

    No that would be plenty.

Have you tried anything else with your current psu?

    Will it run games?

Defiantly go with the Corsair. The Jeantech might say 500w on the tin but most likely can't deliver anywhere near that. Luck for you it's failed now instead of taking out your whole system down the road.

Nah I was a bit nervous to try any games, the problem seems to be when the gpu needs power so I guess any game would kill it as well!
Cheers Ill order that now so, I'll just have to wait another week to game :D
Thanks a mil for the replies :)

I have that exact corsair cx500 and can recommend it. I've never had a jeantech one, but to me it sounds like it should be able to handle your set up unless it isn't the wattage stated...

Have you tried double checking all your connections to the motherboard? Did it stop working suddenly?

Wattage isn't the only factor in power supply's.

You also need to check how many amps each line has to calculate how much power they can deliver.

If the amperage is too low it won't be able to supply that power.

That wattage is divided over at least 3 lines, 12v, 5v and 3.3v.

Your 12v line on the psu powers the graphics and cpu, the 2 most power hungry parts.

Good power supply's have most of that power going to the 12v or have multiple 12v lines.

Bad ones have low amps on the 12v and can't deliver enough power even if they have a high watt rating.

Get it out of there ASAP, Jeantech make absolutely garbage PSUs, While not the exact same model this is a label from a similar 450W version.

Note that only about half of its "rated" wattage is on the critical 12V rail, so it can only supply 22A of actual 12V power. For comparison a real 450W from a decent manufacturer would be rated for at least 36-38 amps of 12V power or thereabouts.

Not all Jeantech PSU's are garbage, I had a Jeantech Storm for years and it was an excellent psu.

Technically 260w 22A on the 12v is sufficient for a 7850 and cpu, but it would depend on the efficiency of the psu. It's unusual that the psu would crap out without the card being stressed though. You definitely wouldn't need anywhere near 30-40a on the 12v for a single card like the 7850.

Unless it's an old jeantech case/psu where the 12v is underpowered for the current market. Out of curiosity, what model psu is it? That would tell a lot!

I'd say get another PSU as soon as possible, regardless of whether it's to blame for this particular instance.
The XFX ones are usually good value (although I think the 450W one has been reduced to 1 PCI-E connector, if I recall correctly). I'd normally have been cautious with the Corsair CXs, but the version 3s are looking up to scratch. I think that it should probably reflect that in the reviews.

Have you got the extra PCI-E connectors plugged into the card? I had a similar problem before. It was with a lower end machine and card where it crashed with windows experience index on account of the card not getting enough power through the slot.

Since it came with a case, until I see evidence to the contrary I think its is probably pretty safe to assume it is similar or the same as the 70% efficient 500W Jeantech unit that is carried by a few retailers and costs about $30.

70% efficiency and specs that do not appear to be listed anywhere on the internet is not exactly screaming quality to me TBH.
