What will you be doing with it. Do you need a 4WD or will a 2WD do. Do you want a loader on it . Are you on the road a bit so do you need a 40K box. Is a shuttle necessary. What HP tractor do you require 60-80, 80-100 or 100++. Do you have any preferences or will a MF135 do and keep 11-12K in your pocket.

It looks a bit pricy good enough tractor the last of them had shuttles however most had 4HFor,4Lfor and4R. Biggest issue with these is that if not services on time and regurlar can tend to give problems. Also if they have any problem you have to sort straight away or else you can do serious damage.

I expect to get one out of a dealer that is fully checked out for 16K not an off farm one.

For that kind of money you would get a flaking Zetor and a New holland would be just about in the price range. A ford 6610 0r 7610 would also be in themix however hard to get a good clean example of either. A MF 390 would also be in the mix with a shuttle it it case of looking around.

If buying private have a good mechanic not ruling out a case however make sure you have a mechanic that is fimilar with them. Also for some reason fellas that bought them worked them.

Agree cs94 fairly reliable. Goes for most cases with a CS prefix. Styr transmission n sisu engines it think. . I'd steer clear of the rest of them

I would go with a John Deere 6600, or a New Holland 7840. Don't go for the SLE gearbox with the New Holland. Otherwise, a good example of either would be as near bullet proof as you could get. You would have decent change from15k as well.

Wouldnt mind if there wasnt a loader, at least you would know it wouldnt have being dogged around as much as a loader tractor for the last 15/16 years but a loader will be put on

Decided yesterday to change the tractor, I had a bit of an accident with the current one. The pickup hitch isn't working properly when the lift is up all the way the hooks won't disengage and so the trailer won't drop. That's only one of many faults. There's too many others to even list.

I know its a really stupid thing to do but I was standing on the drawbar moving them in by hand. Really dangerous for all the obvious reasons and the accident was minor in comparison to what could have happened. I slipped off the drawbar and in on top of the lifts. Few minor scrapes and pissed off I decided that was it enough was enough.

So pending the small print been worked out tomorrow I'll be the new owner of a 8540 Kubota with a front loader. I had been thinking of looking at Zetors but I've gotten a good deal on he Kubota.

Has anyone else any experience with them?

heard they were reliable , you may need a counter weight if doing any heavy loader work,

I was thinking that might be the case although I was watching a 70 HP zetor loading bales with a front loader yesterday afternoon and it seemed to be working away without a bother. The 85hp is as far as my budget will stretch to, ideally I'd like to get the 108hp for the extra weight but maybe another time. The new tractor will be a massive upgrade tho.

Best of luck with it, I know that they make proberly the best compact tractors show there is no reason that bigger ones won't be good. Are they kubota or are they re badged from another brand? Think it might be a good idea to get the counter weight. Espically if your feeding chopped bales, takes the wear off the front axel.

Thanks. Working out the final deal today. Can't believe this day has finally come. I've been looking half seriously at tractors for about 9 months now. When I slipped off the drawbar it was the final push I needed, enough ways to get hurt on a farm without adding in any extra hazards.

They're 100% Kubota. The dealer tells me that virtually the only thing not made by Kubota is the tyres. I'm going to have a counter weight made to balance things out.

    best of luck

I only mentioned the weight cos kubota as a rule are good lot lighter than other makes especially on the rear end,

a couple of the bigger ones near me and the owners are very happy with them , very good on diesel compared to MF or JD

again hope it serves you well
