I'm going to be flying BA to SFO soon on their 747-400. I haven't been on the 747 in about 7 years, was expecting the route to be filled by a 777.

What can I expect from the trip, I'm stuck in basic economy?

I'm flying for work and have to head to a conference when I get off the plane so I'm going to be cream crackered. Is it worth looking into upgrading?

What's the interior cabin noise of the 747 like compared to a 777?

Probably quieter...than a 777-300 in my experience anyway!

Pick a window seat in the rear 3 rows and enjoy the huge amount of extra space between the seat and the window.

The 747 is very loud at the back. I'd pick in front of the wing if it's quietness you're after. Premium Economy on BA is often well priced and on an overnight flight I'd consider it worth it. If it's dear on-line it might be worth trying at the airport, if there are empty ones they might like to fill them for less.

Club World, upstairs, 64A! BA's 744 fleet getting old now, but still one of the best products across the pond.

Also, this site is invaluable. No matter what class you fly this tells you the best seats. http://www.seatguru.com

I have found the 777s I have flown on much more room inside then the 747s, but that could have been down to the particular airlines seat config. But generally I think as a much more modern aircraft they're generally roomier and quieter then the 747s that are still around.

+1 for Seatguru, comfort is more important then cost for me so I make sure to compare seating between airlines.

Plus the 747 have On-Demand tv's where as the 777 just have 4 channels of movies on a loop

No, quite a few of the 777's have AVOD. And pretty sure there is more than just 4 movie channels on a loop.

Currently BA have 6 B777's with no AVOD. They are G-ZZZA, G-ZZZB, G-VIIC, G-VIIE, G-VIIF and G-VIIN. They have 12 video channels, These aircraft will have full AVOD by the summer.

    Make that 7. I forgot G-VIIS.

I was on a BA 777 in 2008 and that had AVOD.
