Had a listen to this with interest last night Tue 12.

Quite good ,fast moving, with Damien O'meara the anchor and John Kenny and Kenny Cunningham live from Celtic Park.

Few little criticisms -build up too long and repetitive ,same old same old ,atmosphere, Celtic park experience, crowd etc etc hardly enough to sustain almost 30 mins of Radio.

Match commentary was good ,John kenny well able to sustain interest, but again a minor criticism. Both commentators voices were very similar and both kept up a rather frantic delivery, now JK I would forgive as he is the game com. but then KC came on at the same speed and pitch as co-com and frankly I was tired listening.

Kenny Cunningham definitely needs to slow down and contrast the game commentator more.

Those two won't gel if they stay together, in my opinion anyway.

Contrast Michael Corcoran and Donal Lenihan in the rugby.

Good prog though has potential and any criticism is only hopefully constructive.

    Any views?

It's a pity they were a few seconds ahead of the TV pictures. I'd much rather have listened to Kenny and Kenny than the TV3 pair.

Did cunningham not do commentery on newstalk aswell?

donal lenihan must be the most monotoned unexciteable co commentator in the history of sport

Look lets be realistic - where else would one want to listen to a Champions League league commentary than on BBC Radio Five live. Why did RTE Radio 2 not do a deal with the beeb - then we would have decent commentaries from the likes of Alan Green, John Murray and Colm Mc Namara

    You are not wrong there.

However my point is that there needs to be SOME contrast, in my opinion.

Are these commentaries being done from the grounds?

Brian Kerr and John Kenny on tonight doing Madrid game.

I think one over excited commentator per rugby match is more than enough.

The TV is behind the radio commentary, but I know what you mean. And the end result is the same!

I believe so,didn't listen last night but I'm afraid two hours of Brian Kerr would kill me.

Anyone let us know if it was good or bad?

Cos then you'd have the 'waste of tax payers money' brigade and the 'not supporting our own talent' preachers coming on giving out. Sometimes its just fun to give out about RTE

Thanks for that, now if I can be honest the 'colour commentators' will be vital.

Seriously we don't need guys who are 'funny' pronouncing names.

That would drive me very far away.

Now that's not to say others don't mind calling a 'game' a 'gay-yam'.

Kenny is fine,it's the co-coms who will make or break the show.

Won't be every bodies concern but I'll be honest again,I wouldn't be tuning in if Kerr is a regular.

Must be people out there who can fill the spot.

And I thought I could be pedantic! I wasn't implying time travelling from 2FM. :D

BUMP- Apologies to the mods, but just wondering , there doesnt seem any live commentary of the champions league games on Game On, have they lost the rights to do it or are scheduling any future games like quarters/semis/finals? Thanks

yes, this was a big thing they were pluggin when it started, but i think it was dropped mid way through last season? no idea why.

i wondered if the second captains lads would get the gig when their GAA show was done but i cant see it happening now.

FWIW Game on should be on RTE1 like all the other sport but thats down to the RTE identity haze.
