I'm just wondering about the cost of renting a boat or barge or something like that in Ireland for the weekend.. looking for something that you can sleep in and cook as well possibly, just me and a few lads? Would be looking for one which someone else steered with self catering provided ( if not, not end of world, could maybe hop off somewhere and get food there or bring some along.) What is good website to look at, what cost would you be looking at? What route is the best, presume Shannon would be most popular.

You and 'a few lads' sounds like a bunch that wouldn't be of any interest to someone with a barge for hire. You need to look to hire a cabin cruiser on a 'self-drive' basis from one of the established hire companies on the Shannon, here's a few of them.....

Ok thank you, yeah fair enough, a barge is more family based?

If any barges are available, they would typically come with a skipper and chef/crew person so would probably be outside your budget.

Yes, typically a large family would book them where they want someone else to do the driving, it's definitely not for a 'lads' weekend.
