    Hi guys.
Looking for some advice if possible. My son has an ASG Classic Army M4 whos gearbox has packed in. It was a cheap starter gun and lasted him nearly 2 years.
What I want to know now is he better buying a new gearbox (needs a new battery also) to prolong the life of this gun
    or
Buy a new gun, maybe a better all metal gun or even buy a 2nd hand gun and scrap or make a wall mount from the existing gun.

He plays Airsoft maybe 20 or 30 times a year if thats relevant. Thanks for any help offered.

    Hi mate

I'd suggest keeping an eye on the adverts section of this forum as some great bargains are to be had, eg

I've bought a G&G Raider in great condition for €90. The new price is over €220.

I've also picked up a STG44 assault rifle for €150, also in great condition. This gun sells for almost €300 brand new.

I also bought a Marui M14 for €150, again in excellent condition. This gun is over €500 brand new.

With bargains like these, why buy "new" aegs? You'll save yourself a packet if you have a daily scan of the adverts section for a gun that will appeal to your lad.

Hi Dave. I remember talking to you about Richer Sounds way back.
The problem I have is that I couldnt tell a bargain from a sack of crap when it comes to Airsoft guns mate and so wouldnt know what was worth buying to be honest.

Adverts on this are always solid I'm yet to see anyone trying to rip anyone off here.. The likes of which would be spotted a mile off anyhow.. Just keep an eye on the ads until somthin pops up in your price range.. Offers and comments by others will give you a very good indication of whether the money's right or not!! I would agree that you should try and pick up a good value AEG here rather than replacing the gearbox!

How much maintenance has the gun had over the two years and heavy usage that your son has given it? If his first gun has managed to last two years without causing issues then it would seem like you got a good run out of it.

Before rushing out to buy a new gun, see what your son wants to do? If he likes the gun then it might well be cheaper to get it repaired (assuming it's a simple failure and not a catastrophic incident like the gears getting munched whilst simultaneously taking out the rest of the internals) and maybe get a couple of minor upgrades to it (tight-bore inner barrel, new hop-rubber, etc.) to increase performance.

    What he said.......

Bar a complete disaster, would be far cheaper to have the rifle repaired/upgraded than going out to purchase another rifle.

Thanks to all for the advice.
The existing gun is in good shape bar the Gearbox which is knackered I think. I will look into getting a replacement and maybe upgrading it as well.
He has also seen a gun on Adverts that he likes so we may have a deal on that as well. Kids these days have it easy! Hes paying by the way.
