White South African People.

Im trying to find a diplomatic way of putting this, but having trouble. Right, people have opinions on Irish people ( bit of fun, drinkers ) French ( good lovers , a bit up themselves ) English ( stiff upper lip etc ) you get the picture . In essence what im trying to say is, I've never met a white south african person that I can warm too. All very loud, in your face, overly opinionated types, who seem to carry around a sense of superiority with them.

Anyway, thread will probably get locked on the basis of it not being politically correct but will see how it goes.

What are you experiences of white south africans .

My conclusion from this is...

At least one white South African is nice.

I've met plenty of sound Saffy people though - educated and aware when it comes to the history of their country etc. They're not exactly ecstatic about the way whites get treated in some part of SA these days, but they don't condemn all blacks for it.

well i bought weights in Elvery sports in Galway off one, when i went in again for more weights he remembered me and brought them out to my car and then said he remembered me from the last time and that i could have them for free as they had loads in stock. I'm not sure if he had authority to do this but he saved me 60 punts.

Only one I've ever met was a taxi driver in Galway. A pure dote that tried to teach us Afrikaans and we drunk as lords. Hilarity ensued and we told him we loved him by the end of the journey.

That was my only experience of white South Africans.

Perhaps the expat White South African community is self selecting. ie. its only the loud brash opinionated ones that do the travelling thing. Kind of like the Aussie's, Irish, Kiwis etc

Interesting point, but honestly, the racism thing does not come into it for me at all, im just curious as to peoples experiences of them , nothing based on the history of the country at all, although in fairness, that does shape a persons personality to a point.

One of the hottest ladies I've ever known (in real life) was a white South African. She was fairly sound too, no sense of superiority, or very loud, in your face. I've also known a couple of fellas, they were a pair of ejits but no worse than most Irish lads their age. I met a white South African girl in her early twenties a few years back and she was a lovely friendly ,down to Earth person.She was just like loads of hard working Irish young people working overseas. She was working on a cruise ship which is hard graft and she had us in stitches talking about what goes on aboard the ship.I don't think any nation can be pigeon holed as there are good and bad everywhere.Irish people are getting a bad rep in parts of Oz due to the bad behavior of a minority of drunken toerags yet most Irish over there are decent hardworking people.

Absolutely , I agree, that is why I am curious as to other peoples experiences, Im not avert to being corrected in my opinion. My own experience is relative as I have know quite a few and spent some time in the country itself.

I've met loads and worked with a few and never had any problems. All cool people, well the ones I met anyway but at the same time S.A history was never top of our conversation.

I've met many Germans and it was like they went out of their way to make sure I knew they weren't some sort of nazi. No harm done and still nice people. Women weren't as easy as I hopped though!

Basically OP good people are where you find them but there will always be things you don't agree with and kants are everywhere regardless of nationality, race, history etc etc

I've spent a lot of time in Cape Town and other parts of SA. Some lovely people all over, I've met a couple of old-school asshat Afrikaaners, worked with a very mixed crowd at an IT development company, been the only white guy in a black bar and partied with the predominantly white Cape Town beach crowd.

So, yes I've met some nice white South Africans. Frankly, I've also met complete dickheads (mainly young men) outside of the country. So best advice. Go there, and pay no attention to the ex-pat bitterness.

It's not quite about race, race is merely an imperfect synonym for social class - just like in the USA.

White South Africans are predominantly from middle class or wealthy backgrounds while other groups are predominantly working class or underclass.

And as mentioned, people who migrate tend to be the more outgoing type and in any case you are unlikely to hear from the mousy types.

I was schooled on current South African race politics by a taxi driver. I called him on some racist sounding thing and he went to great lengths to explain how traditional "western" attitudes to race relations are very hard to apply to South Africa. By the time we got to my place he was mid-talk and spent ten minutes in the drive way continuing on (with the meter off.) I was half pished but basically he was saying that when apartheid was abandoned there was a scrum for political power and the place got cut up and sectioned off by gangs and crime lords who were poised to take hold in the extremely difficult first few years. These were both white guys leaving the Apartheid regime and black guys, different backgrounds, both criminal. It's ended up now with some of those guys having "legitimate" control of areas, competing for contracts and with private police forces headed by the up and coming thugs. They routinely shift and move unofficial ghettos and bribe and intimidate to get votes and honest politicians are having huge difficulty fighting them. Especially when they use outright intimidation against the black populace and threaten the richer white populace with black gangs coming into their area (that is the criminal gangs they own.) The genuine politicians have their work cut out for them when these guys are doing everything they can to stop progress and especially keep black people down as it's easier to control them and steal what little they have.

Edit: He said this was a very rough breakdown and there's layers and layers of corruption and crime in pretty much every poor and lower middle class area. And there's even more variation between cities.

she was a very friendly person and had gotten really used to her but she wanted to go back home,had mentioned the riots as the poor fecker lived in the middle of manchester in picadilly and when the chavs were kicking off that day they trashed and set fire to her car; just as well it was a rental and covered on her insurance.


AH must have the biggest number of magicians on boards; a lot of users turn the one or several south africans they do actualy know into a shtload,bravo,encore.
