nct failure

    hey guys my 02 fabia failed the nct last week on break wheel units the reason was they were defective/sticking on the offside rear can anyone explain what this is and roughly how much would cost thanks :D

    Worst, worst worst, case senario means new brake shoes, cylinders, brake fluid flush possible handbrake cables, possible drums.

    That means about €200 to €250 parts and about €150 labour.

    Probably not even near that if you bring to a good independant mechanic who should have it sorted For about €120 +vat.

    Fred in the shed could possibly beat that but depends on whats wrong and how much you value your brakes.

    it passed a break test in november back at the nct but failed on the handbrake cus it was too loose my brother tighted it and seen as i couldnt get a date for a retest in the 28days it had to go through the full test again i was wondering would he have tighted it too tight :confused:

    I dont try to fix dishwashers, boilers, tv's, etc.

    But i'm a Mechanic.

    my big bro is someone that is handy enough with cars but isnt qualifed mechanic

    Hand / foot brake imbalance needs a experienced fix not just a "tighten this" approach.

    Get a estimate (after they have a look) at a independant garage you trust, then post back.

    Garages are not mad busy atm so insist on a estimate telling you problem and repair price not just a guess at what it may need.

    Dont authorise any work yet unless your happy.
